Network Security and Types of Attacks in Network
The computer network technology is developing rapidly, and the development of internet technology is more quickly, people more aware of the importance of the network security. Network security is main issue of computing because many types of attacks are increasing day by day. In mobile ad-hoc network the nodes are independent. Protecting computer and network security are critical issues. The malicious nodes create a problem in the network. This malicious nodes acts as selfishness, It can use the resources of other nodes and preserve the resources of its own. After analyzing and quantifying the network information security elements confidentiality, integrity and availability, this paper describes the network security confidentiality vector, network security integrity vector and network security availability vector; also we present some major type of attacks in MANET.
Questions:
1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
3. What do you do to protect your home network?

1. What kind of question is that?=) Of course it's important as long as there are bad guys out there=) We would be still waiting in line to pay our bills in the nearest Bank because we wouldn't have online banking if not network security. And that's just one example not to mention we wouldn't be able to put comments under this article if not network security. In my opinion Internet as we know wouldn't be at this stage if not network security (people wouldn't invest in Internet if it wouldn't prove to be enough secure to carry on any type of communication)
ReplyDelete2. I'm not really into Network security altho we were spoofing wifi packets and cracking wifi encryption as a security course.
3. I'm not broadcasting my SSID, I use strong password and having mac addresses filtered. I also have guest network for friends which they can use while they are visiting but this is separate network from all my home network with all connected devices.
Thanks,
Mac
Thank Maciej for your answer. Sometimes simply questions are very difficult to answer. Everybody should protect your data because nowadays our whole life is in cloud or local computers connected to the Internet.
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteOf course it is important, especially when it comes to personal data, access to bank accounts, company documents and so on. Network should be secured to avoid leak of informations that should not be accessible. Often we hear about some bank system problems, leaking data of customers and similar. Usually it is not so hard to provide, but still people make stupid mistakes like using as password ‘password’ or some really easy ones.
2. What type of attacks mentioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I don’t think that I met any of those attacks in real life. Maybe on Network courses we were practising some of them like denial of services and spoofing. Otherwise I never experienced any of them.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
I use anti viruses on all devices connected to network. My network is private and protected with password. I use strong complicated passwords so no-one can break them.
I admire you can remember these passwords.Do you know them by heart?I am only pulling your leg.You are right the appropriate passsword is a good solution
DeleteThis kind of article is not my point of interest. It provides only a vocabulary and this is one advantage I spotted. I don't like to watch product of this testing so I don't like to judge importance of computer security because it is always a dilemma which color of pill you choose. And the most embarrassing is to hear or watch all types of named attacks and lots more. The worst cry is when you can physically protect your equipment, you don't trust your coworkers or can't trust your password. This probably is a sad point where you go to early retirement.
ReplyDeleteI am satisfied you found one advantage of this article-new vocabulary is not of minor importance.Hopefully you won't have to retire in the next decade because our life depends on the work we are doing :)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDelete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
It is not important ... if you do not have any critical services and private data / know how ;). In any other case the answer is: yes,it is. Sometimes people share data that should be protected e.g. on their social media profiles. It does not cross their mind that it is not safe. A lot of them have installed couple AV software but the biggest leak is caused by their own activities. If attacker is in your network he has access to packets that are present in your LAN and can do a lot of unpleasant actions for network users.
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
Spoofing, Wormhole, Fabrication, Denial of services ... I believe most of us receives fake emails that might be scam. This kind of attack is frequently encountered by corporation employees, which receives fake messages from unreal service providers.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
You do not have to do anything special in my opinion. Most of network devices have proper patches that can secure us for instance before ddos attack. Only what we should do is to ensure updated firmware in our network devices and strong password to our network. The weakness point in this solutions are network devices that can download any kind of backdoor software.
I entirely agree with you -people give a lot of information about themselves on different profiles and they are astonished when it turns up not to be safe.
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteYes, of course it is important. Would you make an online payment without secure connection ?
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I’ve hear about most of those attacks but I never met any in real life. It is not my area of expertise
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
To be honest, I do not do anything above standards. I don’t have proper skills to make it as secure as possible.
You are right but nevertheless the payment system cannot be called secure I am afraid. Let us hope we will not have any of such problems.

ReplyDelete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
I think network security is important irrelevant if you are in a huge company or using a private computer. Some, may expect higher risk of attacks in networks but everyone should care about their security.
2. What type of attacks mentioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I have never met attack which affect directly me but I hear about some alll the time. Most popular are spoofing, dos, modification, wormhole...
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
Just basics. I update my software, use antivirus and network passwords.
I must say I disagree with you.The security is an important issue both in a huge company and while using a private computer. That's why you should care about the security.
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteThis is another security article and this time I also agree that network security is an important issue. Is a basic first defense line.
2. What type of attacks are you mended in? Many eg. Phishing, Spoofing, Wormhole, using fake acount and email.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
I did not want to write about it :). But I use hardware and software.
Don't be so mysterious.Write more information-you can help save our data :)
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteNetwork security plays an important role for private users and for companies. A lot of people use bank services, shop, communicate using an internet. I think that everybody would like to have their data and money safe. In the matter of companies, security is even more important. Loosing some data or have some company's services blocked may cause huge financial losses.
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
None of them, or I do not know about it, as I am not a specialist in a network security area.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
I think, the basics. The same actions, that were mentioned in previous comments: network password, antivirus, software updates.
i appreciate your point of view. You realize the threats. You don't have to be a specialist to avoid them.
DeleteWhat do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteOf course it is important. A properly implemented network security prevents from loss through misuse of data. It is important not only in banks for internal or external usage but also regarding any private networks.
What type of attacks mentioned in article do you meet in your real life?
Luckily, none of them.
What do you do to protect your home network?
Some basic tasks. Regularly changed passwords, software updates, proper antivirus.
Keep on being lucky:) You can make it.:)
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteIt's not arguable that nothing has had a greater impact on modern life than the personal computer, and nothing has had a more profound impact on the computer than networking. Networking brings with it security threats which, if mitigated, allow the benefits of communication to outweigh the risks. Risks of poor security to your business network include theft, intrusion and even destruction of digital property. Because of that I think that the network security is very important.
2. What type of attacks mentioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I am a Network Technical Architect. I met all type of attack you can imagine in my work. At the moment the most dangerous one are DDoS attacks.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
Many computer users don't realize it, but for most people their internet router is the most important electronic device in their home. It links most of their other devices together and to the world, so it has a highly privileged position that hackers can exploit.
Unfortunately many consumer and small-business routers come with insecure default configurations, have undocumented backdoor accounts, expose legacy services and have firmware that is riddled with basic flaws. Some of these problems can't be fixed by users, but there are many actions that can be taken to at least protect these devices from large-scale, automated attacks. Please see some tips:
Avoid using routers supplied by ISPs.
Change the default admin password.
The router's web-based management interface should not be reachable from the internet.
Even inside the LAN, it's good to restrict which IP (Internet Protocol) addresses can manage the router.
Turn on HTTPS access to the router interface, if available, and always log out when done.
Change the router's LAN IP address if possible.
Choose a complex Wi-Fi password and a strong security protocol.
Disable WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).
Keep your router's firmware up to date.

you again? Don't spam and don't paste the same posts. What a relief I don't have to answer you for the second time:)
DeleteSecurity is very important. Limited trust and an open head is a necessary condition for secure systems. IT security is important because the Internet is a place of many our activities.
ReplyDeleteI'm a teacher, with attacks I meet like an average person. For protection. I use an antivirus program and I change my passwords.
I use complicated password. I do not log in to the primary bank using a wi-fi or android device. For online payments I have a special account where I have little money and blocked credits.
As a teacher-Have you ever been attacked by your students-hackers? if so-tell us about this experience:)
DeleteWhat do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteYes, in my opinion network security is very important. We should be paying attention to this in our work place and home networks as well.
What type of attacks mentioned in article do you meet in your real life?
Fabrication
DDoS
What do you do to protect your home network?
Third party firmware for router and modem
VPN for external connection
Encryption on valuable files
Where did you come across Fabrication and DDos attacks?I fin the very sophisticated :)
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteI think importance of network security should be considered not for the total society, but for everybody separately. I mean all of us shall use internet consciously and control our activities in network by ourselves. We should responsibly predict the consequences of putting private content, and also be careful when we comment other people or use the data which may harm them or violate their rights or privacy.
The tools we use to ensure network security must be coherent to our conscious participation in virtual reality. It is important to take care of our security and respect other people security.
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I met spoofing, denial of services and monitoring. I experienced also reply attack.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
I use anti-virus software, firewalls and passwords – as strong and often changed, as possible.
I am glad you are among conscious participants of virtual reality:) I admire your eloquence:)
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteOf course it is important. Widely underestimated by companies and home users. However, some "experts" are trying to argue with that. Especially with using antivirus software and software firewalls. Just take a look at this article:
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/01/27/gag_free_ex_mozilla_dev_joins_antivirus_roasting_chorus_its_poison/
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
Phishing is the most obvious one and the most popular. We are facing those attack almost on daily basis, just look how many warnings you get from your banks etc.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
Firewall, antivirus, brain. The last one is the most important one :)
I agree you have to be cautious when entering social media websites. Focusing on thinking and predicting is essential
DeleteI am the type of user that is, due to my field of studies, highly concerned about all the network attacks and security issues, but all my attempts to start really caring about my network security collapses easily. The temptation to quickly buy train ticket online by making transfer via 3G connection instead of standing in big queue or arriving to the train station 30 mins before departure is so big that I break easily. But all kind data monitoring, for example so called man-in-the-middle attacks, makes me nervous the most.
ReplyDeleteYou are right-we must be careful but only to some extent in order not to get mad or obsessed with our security.we must lead normal lives:)
Delete1. What do you think about network security? It is important or not?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion network security is the main problem in networks especially in wireless local area networks (WLANs). It’s so important that nowadays many companies have a branch of security in their IT departments. I think that communication between network devices should be secured against all known attacks.
2. What type of attacks mensioned in article do you meet in your real life?
I have been facing with the Denial of Service attacks (DoS) for a half of year. It is a main point of my research so it’s hard to me not to think about DoS attacks. Personally I didn’t meet any type in my private life.
3. What do you do to protect your home network?
I do my best in this area. I know the importance of this problem so I always try to set up my network to the highest level of security even at the cost of a link speed. It usually comes down to proper configuration of network devices.
Do you have sleep problems? ;-) Thank you for your late answer.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorry. I just work at weekends ;)
Delete1. In my opinion network security is an extremely important issue, not only for companies, corporations, but also individuals. Security breach may cause you a lot of trouble. Not only may you lose all your savings, but also importans personal data.
ReplyDelete2. I would say that the most common one is phishing, but I guess everybody is facing this problem.
3. Firewall and antivirus. I am also trying to be very cautious and not to open strangely looking websites.
too late... :-(

ReplyDeleteI’m convinced that cyber security is one of the most important topics these days. Probably it will be even more important in a few years when the volume of gathering data will increase and a number of devices connected to the internet will also grow. I’m sincerely surprised by the fact that in Europe we hadn’t any successful cyber-attack on strategic place yet. Maybe we don’t have as serious enemies as Iran has.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t noticed any attack in my real life. I do nothing to protect myself in a special way. I have firewall, don’t open emails from untrusted sources and generally don’t download files from not paid sites.
