Hello
everyone,
I would
like to present you an article about teleportation:
One of the
most important discovery of 2015 year was quantum teleportation. For the first
time a team of physicists have successfully teleported a quantum state of a
photon to a crystal over many kilometres away through a fiber optic cable.
Currently it is the basis for theoretical quantum computing and quantum communication,
though it will take a very long time before these results will have real-world
implications. However this innovation is being already tested in networking.
Questions
are:
- Would quantum teleportation be a
breakthrough in computer science?
- Where can be used quantum teleportation?
How can it improve our daily life?
- What do you think about human
teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
Quantum teleportation would be a major breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the statement that teleportation would be a major breakthrough in computer science,
Where can I use quantum teleportation? How can you improve our daily lives?
We are at the beginning of this road, I do not know the subject well so I am not able to comment.
What do you think about human teleportation - it would be possible in the future?
I once read that the teleportation of matter and life is not possible in such a way as in the movie. But it will be possible (at least items) in such a way that recreate in a new place exactly the same object and the existing object in the old place we destroy.
Thank you Maciej for your comment.
DeleteI agree with you that we are at the very begging however teleportation issue has near 20 years.
Till now teleportation assumes dematerialisation of matter so it’s impossible to teleport living creatures…
1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteI don’t see correlation between teleportation and computer science at least now. Maybe in the future this will make a breakthrough or have a significant influence, but in current situation I don’t see major changes.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
I have no idea. I am not a physicist and the whole subject is like black magic for me, so it is hard to say. I think that at this point it is far away from improving our everyday life. This we have many years of testing ahead and I hope than in next 20 years the results will be more influential for our everyday life.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
I wish it would be possible. With the development of science and different discoveries I think that a lot of people are eager to work on it. This would be amazing, especially if somehow it was possible cheaply. Than we would not need planes, cars, ships. Whole delivery would be based on teleportation and access to everything would be amazingly simple and fast.
Thanks for your comment.
Delete“I don’t see correlation between teleportation and computer science at least now.” – And how about tests in networking – described in the article - where quantum teleportation is used to transport data over fiber channel? It may significantly improve computer science especially in terms of transfer rate.
1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeletePer the article it seems so. In the section “So what is this possibly good for?” author suggest possible use of quantum teleportation in quantum Internet.
“With quantum teleportation, physicists and engineers might be able to establish an entanglement connection between distant nodes on a network. In principle, this would enable users at those nodes to pass encoded messages that could not be decoded at intermediary nodes and would be essentially unhackable.” It seems that it might enhance the security of information flowing through the net, which undoubtedly may change the method of encryption etc. Down to the fact that this is first time I touched base with this subject I do not feel expert yet to expose my views on how the quantum teleportation can influence the computer science.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? Quantum teleportation can be used e.g. in quantum Internet How can it improve our daily life? It might improve the security of information.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
My point of view on human teleportation is exact to Adrian Cho, who wrote this article. I am also sceptical about it. Current knowledge of the matter seems to confirm that this is still impossible.
Mateusz, I agree with you. According to information security that you mentioned I think that quantum networks can speed up data encoding and decoding so we can deduce security improvement.
DeleteWould quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteWhen i read the title I was amazed, but now I know it's not so exciting. I'm waiting for the real teleportation :)
Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
At this moment, only in the science. I'm looking forward into it. Maybe it will help sending ourselves :)
What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
If we decide to disintegrate ourselves just to speed transportation in the morning :D Avoiding using public transportation, moving from Warsaw to New York in seconds would be awesome. However, honestly this technology won't come in the nearest future. Maybe not even in next two hundred years. Fingers crossed anyway :)
Mateusz, quantum state teleportation is a real teleportation, so you don’t need to wait for it ;) You are right - human teleportation is a very exciting issue however inscrutable. I’m really hopeful, too.
DeleteIs this only me or anyone else reminds a movie titled "The Fly" starring Jeff Goldblum? I think that it's very likely that human telportation will end as in the movie.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the article "eavesdropper could not measure those photons without disturbing them and revealing his presence" so basically message can be decrypted, so additional level of security needs to be implemented.
For now I do not imagine using quantum teleportation on a daily basis.
Yeah, I remember that movie. Currently human teleportation isn’t possible so we cannot speculate about side-effects. Likewise, I think that quantum teleportation in networking will require additional encryption.
DeleteHello, thanks for keeping us informed on the subject of quantum teleportation. As for your questions:
ReplyDelete1. Yes, quantum teleportation could be a major breakthrough not only in computer science but anything related to share of information practically anywhere. Because based on information, we could recreate things that exist somewhere else (an example could be DNA and the possibility of cloning ourselves on the other end of the galaxy), I don't know of the speed however, is it still considered teleportation if it's not instant and i.e. travels with the speed of light? I guess not.
2. As answered in my previous reply, this technology would be beneficial not only in communication but also share and recreation of objects based on provided instructions coded by some frequency of teleported photon quantum states.
3. Look above. :)
About cloning – till now teleportation is inextricably linked to the disintegration of matter so the original matter is annihilated. And the speed of teleportation depends on transport layer so the scientists use an optical fiber in researches.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I must point out that quantum teleportation is not last year's discovery. In fact, the first person to ever talk about entangled photons and teleportation of quantum state was Albert Einstein. Obviously, that means that it was discovered over 60 years prior to what you've written.
ReplyDeleteWhat scientists did in 2015 was actual teleportation (or more precisely re-creation of the quantum state of a single atom). Or at least that's what I understood from rather extensive news coverage of the topic.
Onto questions:
1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
I am afraid, I can't answer this question. We will see. Definitely, quantum computing will be a breakthrough (since quantum computers are parallel). Quantum teleportation on the other hand, surely will lead to more secure communication.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
I mentioned secure transfer of information. I am not aware of other possible use cases. But I am just a mediocre programmer, not a physicist.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
Honestly, I have not the faintest idea.
It seems that it would require observing quantum state of every single atom in one's body... and recreating it on the other end. For now it just seems unrealistic, but I could be very wrong. All I know is that I don't know a single thing about the subject.
Thanks for your notice about history of teleportation. I don’t know if Albert Einstein was a pioneer of teleportation however the first quantum teleportation was achieved in 1997. Of course it is an old issue but not at all. The main obstacle in progress of teleportation was distance. I think that it was a reason for labelling it as a discovery and moreover it was a breakthrough in quantum teleportation researches.
Delete1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteI think that quantum teleportation can be a major breakthrough in computer science however it is too early to be sure.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
The quantum teleportation can be used in cryptography, telecommunication and internet.
Based on that we can assume that it might improve the security of information.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
I think that it will not be possible. Due to the reason described by Paweł (It seems that it would require observing quantum state of every single atom in one's body... and recreating it on the other end. For now it just seems unrealistic).
I agree with you except one statement that human teleportation will not be possible. We all don’t know the future so it is hard to conclude. Maybe I’m just more optimistic in this issue ;)
DeleteWould quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteIt may be. Certainly not in the nearest future, but one day maybe it will be a fast way of sending information to the distant localizations.
Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
As it was mentioned in an article it can be used as a new way of sending data in an internet. It may speed up the connections between two places located in the different parts of the world. Now, it is difficult to for me to imagine any other use of this research. Maybe physicists could use it for more purposes.
What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
The kind of teleportation described in an article excludes the possibility of teleporting material objects. Only the information can be distributed this way. And when we speek about the teleportation from a "Star Trek" movie, in my opinion it is a distant future.
I am of exactly the same opinion – I have nothing to add to what you wrote.
Delete1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteThe idea of quantum Internet seems quite promising, but I'm not sure if I would call it a breakthrough. It all sounds very abstract at this point, but maybe that's because quantum physics is not my cup of tea.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
Actually I hoped to find out in the article. For now I can't think of any way that quantum teleportation could improve our DAILY LIFE. I think it's all about science at the moment. I'm probably very wrong, but as I mentioned before I lack some knowledge in this area.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
I highly doubt it will be possible. Nonetheless this time I would like to be proven wrong and see this become reality. Who wouldn't love to teleport to far away places?
I think that quantum teleportation can be used where data are sent. In daily life we can experience this technology for example in high resolution digital television or even in the transfer of big data.
DeleteWould quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
ReplyDeleteEverything connected with teleortation will be breakthrough. I hate commuting and this would be marvelous idea for me. Please, please make some research in this area.
Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
Yep. Meetings with people in work. I am working with people from 3 continents and 4 countries so I would be great to have meetings with them instead of talking via Skype.
What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
I don't think that I will be alive in this time but I think that this could be something marvelous and because of this our earth will be less poluted. :-)
Thanks for your comment. As I see you are so optimistic as me on the teleportation issue. We have to keep our fingers crossed for the researchers.
DeleteHello, thanks for this article.
ReplyDeleteWould quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
For now, it is really hard to say anything certain about teleportation. It is still rather theoretical and sounds odd. However, I hope that it will become a breakthrough not only in the field of computer science.
Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
It is hard to say that because the available teleportation will change the whole world. The cost of the transport of any material products will depend not on the cost of the fuel but on the cost of the usage of the new technology. In an extreme case we won't need cars, tranins etc. We will be static not dynamic. It will be an interesting economic situation. I am curious what would be the reaction of OPEC.
What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
It may be a matter of time, however I am afraid I will not be alive to see that.
Maybe quantum teleportation sounds odd but it isn’t a theoretical issue right now. It is already tested in networking so it is the first step to implement such technology in computer science.
DeleteHello, thank you for interesting article. I attached my answers below.
ReplyDeleteWould quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
First time I am not able to give clear yes or no answer. As many people mentioned quantum teleportation is not something new. I have found information about that a first successful quantum teleportation was performed at 1997. I think that it is scientific area where it is extremely hard about breakthrough.
Where can I use quantum teleportation? How can you improve our daily lives?
I think it would be great if we will be able to exchange data using quantum teleportation. Massive, available and consistent data transfer in this technology can be a huge technological step.
What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
Maybe I am sceptic, but I do not think so.
Nevertheless in my view it was a breakthrough in teleportation issue. Those scientists did quantum teleportation useful. They were even contenders for Nobel Prize – it speaks for itself.
DeleteThank you for interesting article. This will certainly be a huge step in computer science, which will introduce a new level of quality - this is my opinion. I agree with previous speakers that in practice quantum teleportation will be used for the rapid and secure transfer of information. Like previous speakers, I note that the article describing this kind of teleportation exclude the transfer of material beings. Is it possible in the general case? Maybe, but not in the three-dimensional space. So probably this is possible, but not possible to see by people.
ReplyDeleteOnce I read about hypothesis that reality is a ten-dimensional space so maybe you’re right that teleportation is possible in other dimensions. Very interesting theory however hard to verify ;)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteTheoretical physicists even claim that the world is infinite but countable dimensional. This means that the number of of dimensions is equinumerous with the number of elements of the set of natural numbers. It is also hard to verify :)
DeleteOh nice :) Some physical theories are really astonishing…
DeleteSeems like an interesting topic but to be honest, I feel like I don't have a background to be able to fully understand it. But I'll try to answer your auestions, of course.
ReplyDelete1. Would quantum teleportation be a breakthrough in computer science?
Maybe, as I wrote, I'm not sure how it could be used and I cannot think of any alternatives than mentioned in the article (quantum internet). It sounds like some very advanced topic, so I guess it could be a stride for an IT world, but possibly people won't feel the difference. It's not like changing from horses to cars, I guess. Even in the article the author mentions that it would be like today's internet which would transfer another type of information.
2. Where can be used quantum teleportation? How can it improve our daily life?
I don't really know. As I wrote earlier, for sure I am not a specialist in this field, so it's hard for me to think of any alternatives for the quantum internet which the article is about. The article states that only photons and some other quantum particles can be teleported, so I don't think quantum teleportation will really improve our life.
3. What do you think about human teleportation - would it be possible in the future?
I think it won't be 'teleportation' known pop-culture (as it is said in the article, quantum teleportation disassembles and reassembles the particle, and it works only for quantum particles). I think I've heard about shortening the distance - rather than teleporting someone - between two points by using gravity portals.
You’re right Paweł. I think that most of the people wouldn’t see any difference because they would feel only a big acceleration in networking and that’s all. However it will be a significant progressive step for technology. It may speed up data transfer even up to speed of light – I look at it very optimistically.
DeleteI think it would be great if we will be able to exchange data using quantum teleportation. Massive, available and consistent data transfer in this technology can be a huge technological step.
