Hello!
I have found an interesting article about time perception. I was impressed with the fact that time perception depends on our anatomy, neurotransmitters and how does the brain process the information

Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, our age perceives time perception. Time goes faster with the number of years. I remember from primary school that I counted days, today I count weeks and Friday afternoon surprises me every week. It's good that during my work I have learned to manage time and plan it a bit. Otherwise it would be hard.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
There are days that time passes slowly and that it runs away very quickly. Unfortunately, those who run very quickly are many more. :-D I get up in the morning and it's noon here, then the evening hmm .. the day is over I don't know when. The day goes on while I'm waiting for a serious conversation with my boss. One minute then lasts 10 minutes.
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Yes, by doing something extremely important that I need to focus on, time passes very quickly. Sometimes you don't even know when the hours are passing. It's the same when you do something important in your understanding. These are space-time imps.
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteI think our feeling can influence our time perception. I remember, when I spend time with people who I like then the time pass faster. When I do something that is boring then time pass slower.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
Yes, I have. That happened, when I was too early and have to waiting for meeting. I noticed that 5 minutes took much longer than usual.
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Yes. I have noticed that many times. When I meet someone who I like then the time pass faster. I always are surprised when I look on clock. Another example when I do something that I like and focus on it then I don’t hear everyone and the time pass faster than usual.
What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, perception of time is strongly influenced by emotions. The impression of the very rapid passage of time also appears when we are motivated to achieve a specific, desired goal. We are focused on the task at hand. This is due to the inhibition of processes related to memory and attention. But when we feel fear, we feel that everything is happening in slow motion. The article is about psychology, I'm not going to write about the physical aspect of time in quantum physics application.
Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
I had a car accident. I remember it very well. Although it only lasted a few seconds, I thought it was a few minutes. Generally, when we do something under the influence of adrenaline, we feel that it takes infinitely long. I also remember running away from bees. Although it was 20 years ago, I remember it very well.
Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Yes, of course. When I do some calculations or write a code that requires concentration, time passes very quickly. Of course, feeling time is very subjective, but most of us will certainly agree that when we were younger, time seemed to flow much slower. I also noticed that the older I am, the faster time passes.
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of factors influence that. What we do now, how old we are or in what mental state we are currently in.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
Every time I have a boring and repetitive activity to do, time seems to stand still. Similarly, when I watch a sporting event and the crucial minutes of the meeting begin, then every minute seems eternal.
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
I have it every time I have to do something important. I focus at the maximum level and I do not know when the hours pass. In addition, when the dedline is close, time seems to accelerate even more.
Interesting post, thanks! So it seems that my pet rabbit perceives time slower than me. Now I feel bad for every time I fed him later than usual...
ReplyDeleteMaybe age somehow influences time perception as well. It feels like the time passes faster the older we are. I've heard that it's related to the lack of new experiences. In comparison to what we experience as children there no so many changes in our adulthood.
As far as I remember I experience rather the opposite - the time passes really fast. Or maybe when the internet is down minutes feel like hours, but it's quite rare.
Yes, I've noticed that when I do something engaging or requiring focus time seems to pass faster or it's just that I don't look at a clock until what I'm doing is finished.
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, our perception of time is primarily due to the age of the person, the situation we are in (whether it is meeting friends or waiting for a doctor's appointment). The uncontrolled passage of time is also at the time of performing an activity that absorbs us completely.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations.
When I perform boring and uninteresting activities, I often have the impression that time is dragging. I don't want to spend too much time on boring things. A similar impression is also when I really want to go somewhere or buy something interesting, and I have to do a number of things (and very interesting ones). However, the brain puts pressure on me that I devote too much time to activities that I like and I feel that I won't be able to go somewhere or buy the desired thing.
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
So when you focus on something, the passage of time is uncontrollable. The brain is so busy with the task that it forgets the passage of time at all. I am surprised then by the end of the day and the fact that I have to postpone the action to another day. Unfortunately, time cannot be stopped, and I have often wanted to do so.
What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteI have never thought about that. We got used to the fact that Tuesday is after Monday, that August is after July, and when you are 25, then you will be 26 years old, etc. Certainly, a child in kindergarten perceives time differently compared to a high school graduate, a family with two children or an elderly person. I think that the perception of time may be influenced by the occupation. People who like what they do will certainly perceive time differently than people who are forced to work to have money to survive. In addition, I think that the mental state also influences it. People who are joyful and positive about life will perceive time differently than people with mental problems.

If we look at flowing time as physical quantity, time always flows the same, i.e. 1h contains 60 minutes and 1min contains 60s. However, if you look at the feeling of time passing by then you will notice that sometimes time "lengthens" or "shortens". Yes, I've noticed the situation in which "time lengthened" several times. When I was writing or write an exam, then I look forward to its results, then "time is getting longer."
Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Much more often I have a situation in which "time passes faster" especially when I travel, then the days quickly follow one after the other. Before I know it, another day comes, and finally the day comes when you have to go home. I also like to walk and then time flies faster. To sum up, if I do something that gives me pleasure then always "time flies faster".
1. I think that a lot depends on our mood, who and where we are with and what we do. If we do something we like, time will run smoothly faster. If we sit in a boring lecture, one minute seems to last twenty minutes. Similarly, when we are sad time passes more slowly or when we are in an environment in which we do not want to be at present. It seems to me that a lot depends on our age. In my youth time flows much more slowly to me. Now, in the sheer volume of professional and family responsibilities, the days pass really quickly.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, many times. I remember when I was in high school history lessons, it was so slow that I thought classes lasted not 45 minutes but 2 hours. Often, if you try to break through a boring article or book, it seems that more time passes than the clock shows.
3. Yes. Very often, when I focus on checking students' work or I write some essays or articles myself, time passes very quickly. I remember how I was immersed in a book so much that when my mother looked into the room outside the window it was already dark, and I continued reading, looking at the following pages, that even the lack of light did not bother me.
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteI think that the main aspects are hormons...never mind if we are stressed out, scary, in love - our behaviour and time perception is changing in the heat of the moment.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations.
Sure! Always when I have a stressful situation! The last time I felt that time slow down was when I present my project result to my head-director...it takes only 5 minutes but it took ages for me!
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
I have other observation. When I focus on something the time pass slower. For me the time pass faster when I have a few tasks at once and I CAN'T focus on only one thing.

I think that feeling the passage of time depends on mood, age and life experiences.
The most appealing to me is the theory that with age we feel the passage of time faster. The attempt to explain it is that a young person absorbs a lot of information - everything is new to her. An elderly person assimilates much less information, "already knows everything" and therefore time runs faster for him.
You can also look at it differently, although it seems to me a consequence of what I wrote earlier - for a 5-year-old child, 1 year is 20% of his current life. 3.3% for 30 years old.
In any case, we can try to "slow down" the passage of time by trying new things in life - constantly learning something new, traveling - and I'm not talking about all inclusive holidays in the hotel, but more about backpacking climates. I guess most people don't do this and time is leaking through their fingers.
2. As mentioned before - boring lessons at school were mercilessly long.
3. Yes, very often when he solves some programming problems, the morning turns into the evening, in the blink of an eye. This is probably the norm in our profession :)
There is a lot of aspects that can influence our time perception. Strong focus on the task could be an example, as you've mentioned. Under stress, the pressure we perceive it differently, then when we're relaxed. Exciting activities can shorten your days (which passes quickly), but extend the whole week (because a lot was going on). As mentioned in the article, a considerable role is played by dopamine and norepinephrine, which amounts changes during our life cycle. Many of us feel that time passes more quickly as we age. However, physics is everywhere the same :).
ReplyDelete1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteTime perception change while we are growing up, there is a theory that say that our perception of time depend on the time we lived so far. So when we are young for example 1 year old 1 hour is 0.01% of our live, while when we are 30 1 hour is 0.0004% of it. This is why time seems to pass to slowly when we are young and speed up while we getting older. On the other hand, emotion can change our perception of time – everyone experienced that 1 minute when you are waiting for important information is much, much longer than 1 minute of doing something pleasure.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
Of course I experienced that situation, one of example could be waiting for green traffic light when I’m in big hurry. This will include waiting for something in general.
3.Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Yes, I noticed this, It’s happening every time I’m doing something that engage me all, my attention is focused I’m not distracted easily. In this situation time will pass very quickly.
1. What are the other aspects that influence our time perception?
ReplyDeleteI think there are two kinds of time perception: one is for "current" time, where we experience time as it flows by, and other for "past" time that is used when remembering how time has flown. By the way the mind works (it's the observer and the observee at the same time) it is possible that those two perceptions get mixed together. This might be why - in a dream while sleeping - time dilation might be observed sometimes. It is possible that our brain can generate one hour of experiences during one minute of real, wall-clock time and project it back as real one hour of the past. This subjective aspect of past time perception is very interesting for me.
2. Have you ever noticed that time was passing longer than usual? Tell about this situations
Usually I experience this when trying to fall asleep - subjectively I'm trying for hours, but objectively it's mere minutes.
3. Have you ever noticed that when you focus on something time passes faster?
Yes, I'm experiencing this very frequently, especially now, during "The Plague" - when some of us work at home. It's much easier to concentrate for me, and when I'm focused on the task, time passes around twice as fast. Or maybe it almost stops and resumes only when I'm distracted, and then I'm surprised it's that late already? I'm not sure, but in the end, it feels like it flows much faster.
