On one tree 40 different kinds of stone fruit grow
harmoniously.
The tree created by Aken is a hybrid on which 40 different
kinds of stone fruit grow simultaneously. The name of the initiative is
"Tree with 40 fruits". The process is also very time-consuming and
lengthy. The grafting of a sprouting branch of one species takes 8 to 9 years.
The grafting process consists of cutting a piece of a branch
with a donut from a tree of one of the varieties and inserting it into a crack
in the branch in a living tree, then wrapping the wound with tape until it
heals and the donut starts to grow into a new branch. Although it originally
began with a slight fascination, over the years the project has developed on a
much wider scale.
Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
Are you interested in gardening?
1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteYes, for years apple trees have been grafted in Poland, even pear trees. I don't know gardening (anticipating the answer to the next question) but I know that this is how it's done. Apparently this "good" affects trees.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
Apparently for gardeners, the most important reason for grafting is that grafting allows you to control the final size of the plant, so you can choose the right tree for your space, but I've heard that it also has a good effect on plant health. It is also important for nurseries that vaccination speeds up the process of plant reproduction.
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I'm not afraid to eat such fruit. Really go to the orchard in spring and see most of the trees are grafted. It's a natural way of breeding them. So we've been eating such fruit for years.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
My wife does, so I have a beautiful garden and lots of plants. I unfortunately don't. However, whenever I can, I help her. I only do what she tells me not to spoil anything :-)
Trees and shrubs are grafted mainly because it allows you to control the final size of the plant, so you can select the right tree for your space. For nurseries it is also important that grafting speeds up the propagation process.
Delete1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteYes, that hybrids are possible and what's more-they are a quite popular in the world. That's nothing new.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
The main reason is to create trees that bear fruit in different ways (this way you can create trees that bear apples, pears or cherries at once).
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
No. Nothing is modified. It's like incubator. You connect young branch and let it grow to get fruits/flowers.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
No...at all. I like to spend time in garden but I could name only a few species which I have.
I've never done anything on the lot, either, because I never wanted to do anything there. Mowing the grass, picking fruit, raking, vacuuming, trimming bushes, cooking - it feels like it's not for me. My girlfriend is cleaning up the plot. I just mow the grass and make the barbecue.
Delete1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the years of gardeners' experience and techniques they have perfected, I think it's possible. In the future, you can add genetic modifications that will allow these plants to grow together even better.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
The ability to induce fruitfulness without the need for completing the juvenile phase. To induce dwarfing or cold tolerance or other characteristics to the scion. To speed maturity of hybrids in fruit tree breeding programs. In areas where soil-borne pests or pathogens would prevent the successful planting of the desired cultivar. And a lot more.
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
No, I think that the fruits of such trees are no different from those growing naturally on their own trunk.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
I have some experience with growing vegetable beds. As far as the garden is concerned, I know that such techniques exist but I have never had the opportunity to test them.
Thank you for answering. From your answer, I conclude that you are not afraid of GMOs. In the United States, genetically modified organisms (or GMOs for short) are quite commonly used for food production. Ok. 60% of food products available on the U.S. market contain GMOs. In EU countries, these organisms are only allowed to be used in the production of animal feed. We also already consume such food as a derivative.
Delete1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, after reading the article and comments I was shocked, no, I did not know that this is possible. I would like to see such a hybrid and evaluate.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
I am very weak in this area, but I think that it helps to heal trees, I also think that it helps to give maximum growth to trees and fruits
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I am not afraid of progress, and I think after reading the comments above, I understand that this is a normal situation and most likely I already ate something like that)
4. Are you interested in gardening?
Generally not, but if there is a global pandemic in the world and we all have to move to villages, then I will have to study gardening =)
During an epidemic, it is good to feel that something depends on us. It is worth taking matters into your own hands and sowing something yourself. Even in pots on the balcony. My girlfriend's parents planted a lot of potatoes. Although they haven't done that in a long time. In addition, many people work remotely and take care of a schoolchild at the same time, which causes a lot of duties and exhaustion. At this time it is worth to take special care of mental health. Preparing a mini garden together is not only relaxing, but also spending time together with the child, which is very necessary to maintain the bond, especially during the epidemic.
Delete1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I didn’t know that such hybrids are available. It’s very interesting. I think we try to play god. In nature this hybrids not exists. There must be some reason for that. We know that trees can catch infections. There are many kinds of trees. Some of them are big and some of them small. How to prevent hybrid tree to catch infection?
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
The main reasons for grafting trees is to create a new tree variety eg. resistible to frost or unfavorable soil conditions. We can create tree that is small and have many fruits. Doing grafting we can get genetic material. I have found interesting article about grafting. Link below:
https://fajnyogrod.pl/porady/szczepienie-drzew-krok-po-kroku-jak-kiedy-i-dlaczego/
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I am afraid. We are playing god. We create different varieties of trees. I don’t know if this is healthy for us. In some case experimenting could be dangerous.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
Yes, I am. Near home I have garden with trees and vegetables. There are a lot to do, but I love it. In spring when everything blooms I like sitting in garden and relaxing.
There is even a therapy that is based on gardening. Hortitherapy, i.e. the therapy related to staying in the garden helps not only in treating mental illnesses, but also in treating many other ailments. I have a garden with my partner inherited from his grandfather, but we only do what is necessary in it. I just don't have time for this. I have a big garden so to look good I'd have to spend a lot of time looking after it.
Delete1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteI have never heard about it. I am not interested in gardening so I am not up to date. However it is very interested fact.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
I have no idea what the reasons are for grafting trees. I think maybe to select the best tree species and modify their sizes.
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I'm not afraid. In my opinion, such fruits are no different from grafted ones. I found on the Internet that grafting of different apple varieties is becoming more common among gardeners and farmers. You go to the store or to the market and you don't know if the apple X was grafted or not. I understand that some people may be afraid, but in my opinion there is nothing to be afraid of.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
I am not interested in gardening. I live in a flat so I do not have big possibilities to do gardening. I have a few flowers in my flat but they are cacti so they are not very demanding :D I travel a lot during summer so if I had a lot of flowers on my balcony, nobody would take care about them.
acti in the house are easy to grow, have little demands and are therefore great companions for the lost and impatient. Nevertheless, not all cacti are inedible (or rather fruit). Edible cacti, or cactus figs, are the fruit of Prickly pear. Before eating, they have to be peeled off, because their skin is covered with tiny, almost invisible, but sharp spikes. So before you try refreshing and slightly sour flesh, you have to remove them with a sharp cloth. Cactus figs can be eaten raw or combined in salads with other fruits. So you too can become a gardener, despite frequent trips, in your flat.
Delete1 Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteFor me it's obvious one can graft one variety of tree onto other. I didn't know it's possible to collect such variety of different species.
2 What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
Creating new varieties of plants is a trade off: like we get bigger and tastier fruits, but the plant is less resilient. Grafting allows to mix and match desired properties of different parts of a plant, like trunk and roots that can withstand cold winter (I guess it's not that important anymore :-/ ) or are resistant to fungi, with branches that bear tasty fruits. Also sometimes, when space is tiny, it allows to have different varieties of fruits in less space.
3 Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
Of course not, I'm not even sure we can buy apples or cherries that are not from grafted trees. My trees (sweet cherries, pears and peaches) are all grafted.
4 Are you interested in gardening?
Yes, I'm into it a bit. Herbs, vegetables and fruit trees/shrubs. It's quite fun, the downside is the actions and results are distant in time, and relation between is not always obvious. This makes optimizing the processes slow and difficult.
I grow herbs too. All in the ground. I only dig rosemary for the winter and move it into the room. I've experienced that herbs like the sun. They shouldn't have too wet ground either. The ground should be permeable and not overfertilized. I think that grown in crates should have the same conditions. I wish you good luck with your cultivation.
DeleteDid you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteYes, I was aware of that :)
What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
I think to create a better income from them!
Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
In the end, I'm buying them on the market - I would never know!
Are you interested in gardening?
Only with herbs that you can add for cooking! Thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil, mint, marjoram, parsley, etc. :)
In addition to herbs, you may be interested in the cultivation of Small Fruit Trees. Nowadays there are also many varieties and miniature forms that can be successfully planted in containers and grown on balconies or terraces. One of the most popular miniature trees grown on balconies are those with beautiful flowers, such as lanthanum.
Delete1. I hear about them for the first time, but it seems very fascinating. I would like to have a tree on which all the fruits I like grow. I wanted to share this discovery with my husband, but he said, like someone earlier in the comments, that this is a very well known procedure. You can grow pears on the apple tree at the same time. He told me that you could even make a potato hybrid with a tomato. The potato grows in the ground, and a tomato grows in the part that protrudes from above the ground. It sounds a bit like magic.
ReplyDelete2. Trees are grafted primarily to make them resistant to various adverse environmental factors, such as frost, pests, and lack of minerals in the soil. Trees are also grafted to form hybrids. Vaccination can also affect the size of the tree and the abundance of harvest.
3. No. I think we have been eating modified species for a long time and so far nothing has harmed us. In addition, the creation of a multi-fruit tree is not a genetic modification, but the implantation of the seeds of another tree in the second tree. I would compare it to gluing than to genetic modification, which would cause outrage among GMO opponents.
4. I live in a block of flats, so I wouldn't even have a place for garden. In addition, I am very afraid of bugs, so spring and summer are the worst seasons in my opinion, but I have a friend who has his own garden and cares about it a lot. He often shares interesting facts about how to fertilize the soil, enclose flower beds so that the grass does not sow on crops, etc. I just like to admire the pretty gardens and the perseverance of their owners.
I also prefer to stay and rest in nice gardens. Than work in them. My girlfriend's family has a botanical garden. It is near Slovakia.
DeleteThis garden is located on the southern slope of Kiczera. In the Beskids. On the area of more than 0.7 accumulated many trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses and annual plants, and in several ponds of different depths you can see many plants and water animals.
1.Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteI’m aware that grafting trees is possible, what's more I eat apples grown that way. My grandfather planted apple tree that bears delicious fruit that all of my family loves, unfortunately lighting strike directly at this tree and ruined it. The only option to save this old apple tree species was to graft it to another tree in our garden. Thankfully the graft worked and we can still enjoy unique taste of these apples.
2.What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
I think that the one I describe above is common – to save endangered species, the second I can think of is curiosity of gardener, or maybe saving space? Is frugality if you have one tree instead of five and still can have five different fruits type, maybe this could be a solution for growing at limited space.
3.Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
No I’m not, I tested it my self 😊 In my case it's bring the flavor of childhood.
4.Are you interested in gardening?
No, not especially, but every year I planted plants at my balcony and I’m trying to do my best not to dry them
Thanks to your answer, I learned about the additional possibility of using tree grafting. Using it to save the taste of childhood.
DeleteI was interested in bonsai at some point and grafting was one of basic techniques.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that grafting allows for creating exact genetic duplicates of superior plans so it's very useful in reproduction. Or it can be used for aesthetic reasons like in bonsai.
I wouldn't be afraid to eat fruits from such tree.
Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteThat's what I heard about this tree a few years ago. That tree looks amazing. I have heard that fruits appear at different times to save a farmer from a bumper crop.
What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
Ecological pros have already been mentioned. I will mention that the author is an art professor - so the visual aspect is also important here - the tree is beautiful :)
Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I would like to have such a tree in the garden, I would not be afraid of eating fruit from it.
Are you interested in gardening?
I do not have the opportunity to take care of the garden now, but in the future I would like to plant something in my spare time, but my parents grow vegetables in their garden. I must say that I like fresh vegetables.
1. Did you know that such hybrids are possible?
ReplyDeleteYes, in my opinion, you can create such hybrids as much as possible. After all, some varieties of cereals are derived from grasses that merged naturally. Currently, hybrid cereals with genes immunizing them against some types of fungi or other pests are becoming more and more popular.
2. What are the main reasons for grafting trees?
According to the author, the point is for the orchard to be colorful, there are fruit all the time and interesting observations can be made. This is certainly a sensation on a global scale. Because I haven't met such a tree so far.
3. Are you not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree?
I am not afraid to eat fruit from such a tree. There are many genetic modifications around the world, e.g. genetically modified food (GMO), which can later be bought in the store. Soybean and corn are most commonly modified.
4. Are you interested in gardening?
I like gardening so much. Maybe because I come from a farm with a piece of orchard. On our own plot, we also grow fruit trees together with my wife and son. We have several apple trees, pears, plums, cherries, cherries, one apricot.
