Today I would like to represent to all of You an article connected to the topic of cyber crimes. Here You go:
https://www.hg.org/legal-articles/cyber-crimes-explained-49894
From the article, to which the link is presented above, we can learn about some typical kinds of cyber crimes. We have there:
-> the cyber crime of malware - speaking more directly this group involves different types of malfunctions, which can infect either individual program or the whole system; most common types are viruses, Troian horses, rootkits and worms;
-> the DoS attack - it relates to situations, where the disruption of services appears on the computers connected to the internet; this one can have enormous effect on proper work of entire company;
-> cyberstalking - this type of crime is less connected with the IT itself than other types, because it mainly concerns relationships between the victim and the culprit; stalking is also very common offense in real world and as well may be committed without using any kind of IT, but because of the fact, that almost everyone has some kind of electric device, it can easily transform to cyberstalking;
-> identity theft - this group of crimes includes stealing data given by users or secured by passwords to gain access to protected information, and also stealing the whole identity of another person, mainly because somebody need to disappear from the world he or she lives in.
Later in the article we can read about factors, which have major impact on the conviction and punishment.
Now, when You are done with reading, I prepared some questions for You:
1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteThe division you introduced is very sketchy. Cyber crimes are a much bigger problem than the four types. I will try to briefly present this phenomenon:
Types of crime:
- data protection crimes (violation of individual rights);
- economic crimes involving computers:
a) computer manipulations: settlement operations, balance manipulation, manipulation of the state of bank accounts, abuse of cards for ATMs and other means of payment, telecommunications abuses;
b) sabotage and computer blackmail;
c) computer hacking;
d) computer espionage;
e) software theft and other forms of piracy regarding products of the computer industry.
Other types of crime:
a) the dissemination by computers of information commemorating the use of violence, racist and pornography;
b) the use of computer technology in traditional types of crime.
Other division:
- Impossible to do outside the computer environment:
a) manipulations by means of a computer on data sets and software;
b) attacks on IT system devices and their theft;
c) theft of computer system consumables;
d) hacking.
- Facilitated by the use of computers:
a) fraud (falsifying input data, using so-called dead souls, making fictitious investments);
b) falsification and impersonation of a surname;
c) information theft;
d) eavesdropping.
- Committed to passive participation of computers (eg fraud or harm in business and private interests).
- Made by professional criminals using computers.
And here we come to the Penal Code Act ... but this is a completely different story!
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Yes, you have to be sensible, attentive, read a lot, do not click on unknown links, use legal software ...
....
...
..
.
It would take a long time to exchange, but the ingenuity of criminals is increasing day by day. The war continues!
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Many of my friends have been harmed by cybercriminals. One even lost the sword in the game, for which he paid in cash. Many friends have lost their identity, a few money from the account as a result of scanning the ATM card. Today, there is probably no person who would not come across cybernetic crime.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Of course! The quantity and quality of crimes will increase. No one knows whether in exponential or geometric progress it will be. The military are preparing for cyber-war wars ...
Thank You for Your comment! You are completely right, this artocle was just a brief introduction to the world of cyber-crimes, and I am glad that You presented in response such interestic divisions of cybercrimes. Unfortunately nowadays we come across many types of crimes which are connected to the computers. So as You said - the war continues!
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of cyber crimes, I would mark out phishing scams. It is based on attempts by scammers to trick you into giving out your personal information such as bank account numbers, passwords and credit card numbers. These scammers will contact you via email, text message, phone call or social media, pretending to be a legitimate business such as your bank. The scammer may ask you to update them on your details so they can refresh their systems, they may even ask you to fill out a survey as you have the chance to win a prize at the end. But here is where the scammer can get access to your email address, phone number and more.
Another example is eavesdropping and surveillance. Eavesdropping without the consent of the parties is a crime and can be done online or over the phone. The most common way to eavesdrop is to wiretap, which is the practice of connecting a listening device ,usually to a telephone line, that allows the criminal to monitor conversation secretly.
The salami slicing attack is an example of cyber attact. It’s a technique used by cyber criminals to steal money or resources a tiny bit at a time, so there initially isn’t a noticeable difference to the bank account.
I would like to give one more example – ransomware. Ransomware enters your computer network and encrypts files, meaning you don’t have any access to them. The attacker will send you a notification demanding a large sum of money for you to then get your data back
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Below, I listed some ways how to prevent from cyber crimes:
- Using a full-service internet security suite. It helps protect your private and financial information when you go online
- using strong passwords. You don’t repeat your passwords on different sites, and change your passwords regularly
- keeping your software updated.
- Strengthen your home network. A VPN will encrypt all traffic leaving your devices until it arrives at its destination. If cybercriminals manage to hack your communication line, they won’t intercept anything but encrypted data
- Managing your social media settings. Keep your personal and private information locked down. Social engineering cybercriminals can often get your personal information with just a few data points.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
I have been a subject of the cyber crime. I bought plane ticket on British Airways last year. When I was on the holiday, I heart that the hackers stole the data of British Airways clients. After several days, when I come back to Poland, I got the information that my Visa card was blocked by bank because the details of my card were stolen and there is a possibility that
someone will be able to use this data.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
In my opinion, the IT development contributes and will contribute to increase the number of cyber crimes. The knowledge of how to break the security allows for better protection. Nowadays, there are a lot of new fast developing systems so there is a challenge for hackers and then for owners how to improve the safety. It is unlikely to foresee any security measures so the best way is to monitor the behavior of the system and if something is wrong, the best way is to try to fix the weaknesses of the system.
Thanks a lot for Your comment! As I was reading, there came to me another example of cyber-crime, which is extremey popular nowadays - it is kind of extortion conducting via social media, when hackers write from the account which has been the subject of the attack, and they ask some friends of person initially owning this account to pay some amount of money on given bank account, and they very often get such money, because victims are sure that they are giving money to some friend of their!
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteThis types o cyber crimes are botnets, social engineering, PUPs, online scams, exploit kits and prohibited/illegal content.
I have found a interesting article about cyber crimes ad types of it.
https://www.pandasecurity.com/mediacenter/panda-security/types-of-cybercrime/
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Yes, I have some advice for everyone who want to be safe in internet. Those rules are:
1) think twice before you do something in internet
2) use a good antivirus software and firewall to protect you from many
kinds of threats
3) regularly update system and software on your computer
4) carefully read licenses before install software
5) check email address before you open it
6) use strong passwords in online services
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Yes, that person was my father. One day he told me that on his computer screen was displayed an image with a message, an account number for payment and an elapsed time. My father worked on a limited account, so files could not be encrypted. It was enough to delete the account and the problem was solved.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
I think it could be happen. Today mamy companies are connected to the Internet and share a huge amount of data with each other. We using internet payments to pay for everything. The online banking is very popular. Many governments offices offers his services in Internet. It is a big area for people who want to do something illegal and become criminals.
Yes, I completely agree with You on the matter that currently our world is dominated by the things we do via computers abd because of that there are more and more chances for criminals to commit even more cyber-offences.
Delete1.Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteNow a days major part of our lives take place in the internet, this is a new ground for crimes and extortion. Still a lot of people don’t know how to protect themselves against this type of cyber thred. On the other hand, I have a feeling that every day new type of cybercrime is invented.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
First, it’s important to be aware of a threat. Secondly, always have updated software primary antivirus program and firewalls. And also, very important, be cautious and paying attention to details, don’t open unknown and suspicious links or mail.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Yes, unfortunately, my husband became a victim of cyber crime. His credit card was copied during internet payments. Fortunately bank discover this activity and blocked the account, and assured refund.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Yes, I think that we will be using internet even more extensively than today, and I think that cyber crime will follow this expand.
If I may ask, in the case of the offence Your husband was a victim to, was the culprit found or was the investigation remitted because of not founding the criminal?
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteCybercrime is a very broad area that grows constantly with the development of technology. The types listed in the article are only the tip of the iceberg. Just look at the Wikipedia entry on cybercrime. I think it does not cover all possible cases anyway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cybercrime
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
The main problem in the most serious Internet crimes is usually the human factor. I think we are not able to create software that will protect against all threats that are constantly evolving. It is important to educate Internet users and make them aware of all possible threats. Increased vigilance would allow us to avoid many abuses.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
I have not heard of any of my friends falling victim to a more serious online crime. Unfortunately, I often see posts or invitations to groups on Facebook, which are a consequence of clicking on suspicious links. Considering how much of our data is stored by facebook and that it can be used for scamming, e.g. the recently popular BLIK method, I am concerned about this.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
As I mentioned earlier, with the development of technology there will be more and more ways and opportunities for attacks. Security will also be developed, but it will be an endless arms race.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI must say that I am also concerned about the topic of cyber-crimes, because nowadays criminals have more and more ideas of how to commit another crime, and finding culprits is much hader because of that. For example, when we have an offence involving transfering money from one account to the other and other and other it is really hard to keep track from where initially the money came from, and what's even worse - many times the owner of original bank account is a strawperson.
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteI have one, it's not yet a crime in many countries, but I think will be: passing on stupidity and lies on social networks. And also unauthorized replication of data, sometimes called "piracy".
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
I think we can prevent the 'cyber' part, but the 'crime' part will stay with humanity till the end. I'm not sure I'd like a society without crime, the means would need to be quite drastic.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how did the case end?
Some intrusion attempts, detected and prevented. So, there was no case in the end.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Definitively, yes. I'm not sure there will be more of general categories though, just new incarnations of those in the article (with addition of plain theft, as it is missing there).
What do You mean by passing on stupidity and lies on social media? That is really interesting. We have a crime called defamation and I think that someone who is sharing the post containg such defamation can be held responsible for accomplice to such offence, but with the stupidity unfortunately I can't think of any ways to chase the culprit ;)
Delete1. Can you name any other examples of cybercrimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeletePhishing and DDoS come to my mind as the examples of cybercrime. Nowadays DDoS is more popular than DoS. If you want to overload the server, you may use the performance of many compromised computers. Phishing is the fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication, most often by e-mail.
2. Do you know what are some ways to prevent from cybercrimes?
In my opinion, the weakest link in cyberattacks is a man. That's why I think that constantly raising the awareness and responsibility of IT staff and end users is the most important and the most effective.
3. Have you or one of your friends been the subject of cybercrimes? If so, what was the crime and how did the case end?
Unfortunately, yes, and it was ransomware that successfully encrypted files on my friend's computer. The worst thing was that they were very important files from her work. Fortunately, there was - although quite old - a copy of the data on the external memory.
4. Do you think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cybercrimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
I agree with this statement. I suppose that new attacks will always appear during introducing new technologies. We still hear about new exploits in existing solutions. The new ones are certainly less researched for new vulnerabilities.
In relationn to phishing, mentioned in Your comment, there is also a type of offence, when the culprit create a website almost completely identical as the website of some well-know institution like bank, and when the victim try to log in to the account, criminal take over written data - username and password.
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteYes, for example cyberbulling. Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. By definition, it occurs among young people. When an adult is involved, it may meet the definition of cyber-harassment or cyberstalking, a crime that can have legal consequences and involve jail time.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Ways for preventing yourself from cyber crime are: using strong passwords, keeping your software updated, managing your social media settings, keeping your personal and private information locked down.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Yes, for example I am receiving time to time phishing emails but I am aware of them and I am not responding to them.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Yes, with growing amount of possibilities there will be growing amount of threats.
I also heard about the cases of cyberbulling and I think that this is very serious offence, which may even lead to suicide attempts of the victim. I also must say that even when the attacker is under 17, they can be held responsible under the regulations of minor's criminal responsibility.
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteRecently, a new method based on Blik's extortion has appeared. Such theft starts with taking over someone's Facebook account. Not yours, but someone close to you. Criminal, to pay for some order, which he does not cope with. Or a loan. He will insist on transferring the money with BLIK (i.e. generating the BLIK code in your bank's application). The immediate nature of the transaction means that the attack (talking to the victim) is carried out from the vicinity of the ATM. According to people familiar with such scams, thieves usually sit in a car with a laptop or walk with a smartphone in their hands and "spice up" on the Messenger of the friends of the victims they have intercepted on Facebook.
Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
The basis for security is the use of strong passwords. It is the first line of defense against cybercrime and can prevent or significantly hinder an attack. Unfortunately, many Internet users still secure access to their accounts using their own name, surname or date of birth. A good password should consist of at least 7 characters, not a dictionary word, upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. It is also unacceptable to use a single password for all security features.It is also important to use antivirus software to warn you of the dangers and to help you remove any viruses you may have. There are not only paid programmes available on the market which require an annual licence, but also many free programmes which can be downloaded from the Internet.
Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
My father was once a skimming victim. First that you need a complaint, then some appeal, then that you require a letter from the police that the case was reported there.
Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
I completely agree with You in case of strong passwords! For example, nobody should use passwords containg some basic letters from the alphabet and nothing more, like for example: aaa !
Delete1. Impersonating service companies or banks and extorting money through emails about unpaid payments or the need to update your data. I often see other laptops with sealed cameras, so I suppose that a lot of people are afraid of eavesdropping and viewing them through webcams. Data extortion through the temptation with "You won Iphone" ads where you need to enter your email address for verification. Blackmail and threats so often used by users of various forums who feel invincible in the internet, insulting other people.
ReplyDelete2. Some of them are very simple. Just do not click on suspicious links or e-mails. Watch on which websites and to whom we provide your personal details. Install a good antivirus program. Be kind to others on the Internet and think three times before writing an offensive comment and wonder if you would openly say what you thinks about someone face to face.
3. I do not know if you can call it cybercrime, because nothing has happened so far. But I get a lot of spam lately from strange email addresses, that I have some unpaid invoices or that I need to refresh my data on a portal. Or that somebody got access to my data a few months ago. As for my friends, I remember stories from a few years ago, where someone hacked and stole their high-level characters in the game Cabal Online, which in no way could be retrieved later.
4. I think so. The IT industry is growing rapidly, and large corporations are storing huge amounts of data that have access to the internet, so, unfortunately, we will not hear about data leakage or theft again. The more opportunities on the Internet, the more opportunities are available to spoil someone's mood or life.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteFrom what I know even if You just received e-mail telling You about some unpaid invoices which aren't real, it can be treated crimainlly as an attempt, which is punished in our law system as well :) but unfortunately many times such e-mails are send from IP's placed in far away countries such as Nigeria and culrptis are really hard to find.
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDelete-Content theft
-Blackmailing
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
The first rule is the user's knowledge, 90% of threats are directed to the unawareness and oversight, dissociation of a given user. Even security professionals sometimes click non-sent to the address that came in the mail, after which a page appears which looks just like the bank's website and the user enters the data and they will be intercepted. quite often, such attacks are used to collect data collected in psychology through various types of research and analysis of them for possible use to commit a crime.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes?
If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end? Personally not, but I know a person who was injured by opening a file that looked like a PDF with a document, but turned out to be a malicious software that started encrypting all files on the computer and then managed a ransom for access to the keys decrypting these files.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Of course, there will be more and more of them, since the technology development is two-edged weapons, new threats are created by building new safeguards. due to the fact that these securities are often built by people and there are gaps in them. additionally, we also remember that there are currently quite advanced works on self-guiding vehicles, and in this matter murder-related crimes such as a car or a bank or other jump may arise.
Unfortunately even that the topic of cyber-crime is rather well-known there are a lot of people who are naive and are the easy target for criminals, for example I heard about the case, where the middle-aged woman, what's even more interesting she had degree in law, who received an e-mail saying that she inherited a large sum of money from her ancestor living in the US (even though she didn't know about any member of her family living outside from Poland) and in order to collect the inheritence she must pay about 20.000,00 zloties to pay for transfering it through the border. And - as stupid as it may seems, she really did this, and after that she paid two more times smaller amount of money, about 2 or 3 thousands, when the culprits said that there was some unpredictable troubles on the border. To spice it up, all the e-mails was written in really poor Polish!

ReplyDelete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteOther computer crimes can include:
- eavesdropping on the wireless and telecommunications network,
- copyright infringement on the internet,
- computer piracy,
- cyberbullying,
- using the Internet to things generally unacceptable to the public.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
To protect yourself against the consequences of cybercrime:
- use antivirus and antispyware software,
- use only trusted sites,
- do not open suspicious e-mail attachments or messages from unknown people,
- do not use wireless networks in public places, eg electronic banking, social networks,
- do not use computers in public places for private purposes.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Fortunately, this situation did not happen to me, but a few years ago one of my students got strange sms. After the investigation organized in the school, it turned out that it was a stupid joke.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
The development of information and information technology will contribute to increasing this phenomenon in the Internet and increasing its scale. If people were good, there would be no need for locks. It is similar in the virtual world. Excellent IT tools will be used for online crime.
thank You for Your comment! Can You tell me, what this SMS was about? Was it something connected with a bullying or making fun of a person or something like extortion?
Delete1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteThere are many types of cyber crimes. For example online scam, when someone gets an email that offers incredible amount of money for some registration etc. In fact they only want your data.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
The best way to prevent cyber crime is to be aware of them. Always check if your connection is secure, do not provide your data everwhere it is asked, check attachments before opening etc. Probably tho one 100% accurate way to be secure is to not use internet at all.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Yes, few of my friends emails was ckracked. As I remember they didnt+'t get back their emails and had to create new ones. Fortunatelly emails that were stolen were just emails "for spam".
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
There will be constantly new types of crimes and new ways to prevent them. I don't know if there will be more crime, hopfully not because the old types of crimes wil be managed and rather new types will be created.
I'm affraid I must agree with You, that the best way to stay safe from cyber-crime is to resign from using Internet at all, but I think that nowadays it is not possible for someone actively working and living ;)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteActually the issue is very interesting for me as solicitor, as well. We have a lot of types of cyber crimes, like for example computer intrusion of any malicious activity that harms a computer, or a computer or a computer network that causes an unexpected way to work. These attacks, virus propagation services or operating system or software feature includes the refusal of exploitation.
There is also crime called “social engineering” when we want user to send us an e-mail or phone to provide confidential data like passwords, a user by means fool.
Masquerading - a system of this type of attack is a TCP packet, a spoofed source address of a packet appears to come from a reliable host that makes sending is fooled into giving access.
Email bombing – this is a crime, when victims due to an accident or mail server to the matching mean sending thousands of emails.
Another one, a logic bomb is a phenomenon driver assault. This type of attack is activated only if there is anything.
And Salami Attack - this type of attack is used for financial gain. The opening is so small that a significant change in the attack, in case it cannot go unnoticed is to create. For example, a bank employee from each customer or transaction deducts $ 2. Customers are unlikely to notice the change, but the employee gets a fortune.
For me, the only one way to fight with cyber crimes is to be better than the attacking party. This is never - ending struggle, and another issue is, what is more important for genius specialists, what kind of values they follow in their life – as a result they support law or crime.
I have an example. My friend’s teenage daughter was attacked by cyberstalker. The case was directed to police, but they weren’t able to solve the problem, she has to change the school and it stopped.
Maybe the number of cybercrimes will not be bigger, because it can be more possible to find the responsible criminals. I hope our police will at last educate and will be able to help.

1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteI think that phishing is definitely one of the crimes that should be brought up. The purpose of this method is to induce individuals to reveal reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. Also I've notices that more and more people have their FB accounts be hacked by other people and then their FB friends receive messages from the hacked account asking for money transfers to be made.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Think twice before using Internet, use strong passwords, safe networks and again think twice before doing anything.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Yes. Couple of my friends had problems with their Facebook accounts. They were hacked and their friends received messages with money transfers request.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
Thieves, hackers, people taking advantage of other people... they will always find new ways of making money with least effort possible inventing new crimes and new fraud methods.
1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteI think that you wouldn't find completle list even you will read all above answers. The cyber crimes are something common (unfortunately) nowadays. The rules are exactly the same as in common crimes. If you aren't wary you could be the next victim. The scale of attack don't have to be big. In some type of crimes criminals need only pole so one person will be enought.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
Of course. As in the above question the number of way how to prevent is as many as number of crimes.
We could use VPN, strong passwords, two-step logging...and so on but the most important is just to be pole, always using the newest software and be really careful when we install something new on ours phones/tablets/computers...
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Unfortunately yes, but luckilly the situation weren't very risky! My best friend had a mobile router. Operator (as we mention later) didn't inform him that this SIM card have possibiliy to send sms. He didn't block this option and after one year of using he get bigger bill. When we call to operator he get information that someone send from his SIM card sms on the premium number. This sms could be more but operator (luckilly) set limit on 100zl so someone could send only one sms (half of that was a normal payment for the internet). As you see the consequences weren't seriously so he don't try to find out who/why and when it happen.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
I think that systems evolve better for a years and some of technology (e.g. blockchain) can't be "just hacked". However I'm sure that range of crimes will be bigger becouse number of ends user devices is also bigger.
Currently no other type of cyber crimes comes to my mind. As for prevention, it probably depends on many factors, but maybe the most universal solution is education. Many crimes could be prevented if a victim was more cautious - he checked if a bank's website was secure and the url was right, he made sure he don't respond to a very suspicious mail, don't plug in unknown pendrive to his computer etc.
ReplyDeleteI can say, me myself was a victim of a cyber crime! 10 or so years ago my credit card was unauthorizedly used. As using credit cards back then wasn't so popular, I know it must have happened when I paid for something in a foreign online shop. The shop itself was rather ok, it seemed trusted and I've received my order. It turned out that credit cards are super safe and I haven't experienced any serious consequences, I just had to return the card to the bank to not to pay for the unauthorized transaction.
Development of IT may lead to new crimes. For example, in USA it the voice authorization seems to be popular. Criminals call potential victims, make them use a specific phrases in seemingly normal conversations and then use recordings to illegally authorize for example bank operations.
1. Can You name any other examples of cyber crimes, different than the ones mentioned in the article?
ReplyDeleteOne egzample that comes to my mind is illegal content sharing.
2. Do You know what are some ways to prevent from cyber crimes?
I believe that being careful and reasonable is the most powerfull way to protect. Of course good setup of firewall, antivirus and not sharing your identity with everyone and everywhere is also a must.
3. Have You or one of Your friend been the subject of cyber crimes? If so, what was the crime and how dd the case end?
Only one case that came to my mind was my mother and the letter from some law office where they just blackmail her, that she will be accused for visiting some sites that she never saw if she wont pay some compensation. Of course she was innocent and she didnt pay anythink, but this law office sent this letter to over 20k people, so probably they find some people that paid.
4. Do You think that because of IT’s development there will be more examples of cyber crimes and the range of such crimes will be bigger?
For me it is rather a change in our lifestyle rather than IT's development, but yes, as we are spenting more and more time in virtual reality crimes will also move this way.
Good artcile, but it would be better if in future you can share more about this subject. Keep posting. agen judi bola terbaik
