Education is a fundamental process in a person's life, which has a huge impact on their development. Thanks to the enormous development of information technology,
slowly traditional learning within the walls of the school is being replaced by
more modern methods, such as online learning. Therefore, more and more students
decide to take classes online. Teaching with the use of computer networks and
the Internet means supporting the teaching process by means of personal
computers, smartphones, tablets (m-learning) and the Internet. It allows you to
complete a course, training or even study without having to be physically
present in the lecture hall. It also complements the traditional teaching
process. Students believe that the traditional way of teaching in class is
restrictive, inflexible and impractical. In addition, more and more tools are
being developed to make online classroom teaching more effective.

2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
As this article show there weren't any significant difference in student performance between online and face-to-face learners. I read about it 4 other articles and in only in one were better results in online learners group, but still the result weren't spectacular.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I take a part in a few online courses and have to say that they are very useful, BUT I think that traditional way is much more better. From one hand we can't watch many times the same lesson but from other hand we can asking as many as we want. Moreover I'm very communicative and spend with computer too many time. For me is much more easier to just talk with someone and when it is traditional conversation it's much easier to remember everything.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
They are using computers everyday so nowadays is much more natural for students to learn online. Moreover they prefer this way of learning because they can learn when they have tima and just want to do it...another thing is if they do it at all ;)
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
I think that if all classes will be available online then people stop talk to each other at all. In traditional classroom we don't only learn but also talk with others, learn how to cooperate and establish relationships. This is very usefull and we shouldn't forget about important thing-people need contact with other people. Everyone need friends and from time to time meet with someone in real life.
It's my comment-I forget to log in.

DeleteThat depends on your personality. If you are an extrovert, meetings and relationships between people help you gain knowledge. In the case of introvert people, online lessons are a much better way. In my case, face-to-face lessons are a complete waste of time.
Delete1. Explain the term "STEM".
ReplyDeleteScience Tech Engineering ... Medcine? I guess Math originally, but sometimes it's supplanted by Medicine.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
I think it's still about online learning 'not being worse' than the real thing. So here are cases where it works, but also many failures.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I did sample some materials from various online courses, but I can't remember if I really completed them. There was 1 course in the course of our studies, which was actually very interesting and fun to take part in. But I have a lot of difficulty using course platforms like Coursera, Pluralsight etc.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
I don't have any information about it. The current students are different from the ones a decade ago, so there can be many factors changing the attitude.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
There is a risk of procrastination - putting things off until the last moment. This can result in complete failures of learning, or strongly subpar results.

DeleteOnline courses are not bad. You just don't have the motivation to finish them. You mentioned the example of a course in our program. This course ended with a pass. However, you were not obliged to complete the course in Courser to the same extent.

2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
I think traditional learning is more effective. However, by choosing the right balance between online and traditional activities, we can also learn a lot from online learning.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I had many courses that were only online. This formula doesn't work at all, we get a lot of material that we have to understand ourselves. Often it was not even possible to directly meet with the teacher and ask about things we are not sure about. Of course, this does not apply to all courses. There are a lot of such courses on the Internet that lead from the very beginning and allow you to take the first steps in some technology that you want to learn.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
Certainly, such courses are becoming more and more popular, and students are trying to learn more from them. Current generations of students have already started to grow up in a world with ubiquitous Internet access and this is their natural environment.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
I don't think we should replace all traditional classes with online ones. It is important to have direct eye to eye contact with the teacher but also with other course participants. This way we will also learn to cooperate with other people.
Thank you for answering.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, such a course is difficult to prepare. But it is the fault of bad preparation of the course, not the method itself. For example, I took the view that free youtube courses are better prepared than paid "udemy" courses.
1. Explain the term "STEM".
ReplyDeleteJust like my predecessors ...

Capitalized STEM.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
In my opinion, there isn't such difference. The same knowledge can be gained using both methods. The difference is in when we will absorb it and when it will happen.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I don't care. I completed several online courses and were as useful to me as the traditional ones. I will repeat myself. The important thing about online is that I can learn whenever I want and not on Monday from 3pm to 6pm.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
Both student and lecturer think that online teaching gives some freedom. As far as I know, students are happy to use this type of teaching. I'm for it.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
In my opinion, there aren't such. Because if someone wants to learn - gain knowledge - then every way is ok for him.
Thank you for answering.
DeleteI agree with you. Everyone learns best at a different time. By using online learning, we can increase the efficiency of our learning.

2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
Based on the articles that I read (including this one), there are no significant differences. In my opinion, the quality of teaching and the student’s desire are of greater importance.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I take online courses on the Udemy service. There are advantages in this - I study when I want, and I can review several times what I did not understand right away, I can repeat the material after any time. But unfortunately, I do not always have the desire to teach, and I can abandon my studies for several weeks. If I had to attend courses on a stationary basis, then for me it would be a big plus, as it forced me to do it all the time, but not everyone is like me)
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
Affordable and cheap online training has appeared. It has become easier for many to take online courses, get some kind of certificate and try to work, than undergo stationary training.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
As I already wrote - sometimes it’s hard for me to force myself to study online, if it were stationary, I would have no other choice.
Motivation is the most important thing. These methods can be combined. We had online classes, which we had to pass. Everyone did them whenever they had time and desire. Our motivation was the deadline.
Delete1. Explain the term "STEM"
ReplyDeleteThe term „STEM” means Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. This term is typically used when addressing education policy and curriculum choices in schools to improve competitiveness in science and technology development. It has implications for workforce development, national security concerns and immigration policy.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
Based on the article there is not significant difference between traditional and online learning. Authors used a very good tool and algorithms to check statistical difference.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
For me it’s depends on subject topic. For some subjects is better to learn online because we can do it when we have time and in home. We are alone in our room and can concentrate on task. When course is presented in a form of videos then we can return easily to the moment when we something not understand. This is good for learning eg. programming language. If we need to improve our language skills then a better choice is a face to face class. In this classes we can talk to each other and train speaking about many different topics. It can help us overcome nerves and fear of speaking.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
To answer this question I found an article. Link below
https://www.pfw.edu/dotAsset/ff3c217c-d596-446d-b10f-6c555fdb1674.pdf
In this article author mentioned that millions of people choice online learning. Today a huge amount of people have access to internet resources. The learning materials are high quality nad students can learn in home. High speed access to the Internet have given new abilities for new methods of learning. Is a huge progres. I remember when I was student all subjects took place in traditional classes. Today we have online courses.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
By reading the article I found many negative effects. In online teaching the online instructions dampens the learning proces. Some students may be technophobes, more comfortable with sitting in a classroom taking notes than sitting at a computer absorbing data. They may see the Internet as an impediment to learning. In online teaching learning proces depend upon access to an unimpeded Internet connection. If technical problems occur, online students may not be able to communicate, submit assignments, or access study material. This problem, in turn, may frustrate the student, hinder performance, and discourage learning. Next problem is that Research libraries may provide materials not accessible by computer. The research shows online students are more likely to quit class if they do not like the instructor, the format, or the feedback. Because they work independently, relying almost wholly upon self-motivation and self-direction, online learners may be more inclined to withdraw from class if they do not get immediate results.
You wrote that students withdraw if the teaching method or the teacher does not like it (e.g. behaviour). I do the same in relation to even classical teachers. If I pay for something, I require it. And here it doesn't matter what kind of learning it is.

ReplyDelete1. Explain the term "STEM".
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
Based on an research presented in the article, through 8 years’ time period, and through different class rank and gender group there were no significant difference in student performance between online and face-to-face learners found overall.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
Personally I’m a big fan of an online learning, I completed many of them, on a different learning platforms. The learning experience I had depend on course level, the platform, and also my level of experience with online learning. It’s getting easier with time spend on online learning to work out the discipline to be consistency. But beside that I think there are some disciplines where human contact is crucial, and traditional way of learning work better, like in learning how to play an instrument, or dancing classes.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
The advent of online education has made it possible for students with busy lives and limited flexibility to obtain a quality education. Thanks to that many students choose online learning over face - to -face. As opposed to traditional classroom teaching, online instruction has made it possible to offer classes worldwide through a single Internet connection.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
Researchers pay our attention to the fact that online learning bring a limited communal synergies. I also think that this is the biggest disadvantages of this learning approach. Human character is being shaped through the time of studies, and the interaction with other people is one of the factor impacting this process the most.
A very valuable observation. You cannot learn to dance or play an instrument during online courses. This also applies to the learning of foreign languages. And like your predecessors, you mentioned motivation. I completely agree with you.
Delete1. Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics.
ReplyDelete2. There is no clear difference between these methods. In my opinion, the effectiveness of learning depends primarily on the student. One student will prefer the traditional teaching model, the other on-line course. I think that teaching methods should be adapted to the needs of students.
3. Yes, I did online courses. I don't have any preferences. It is certainly easier for me to focus and mobilize in the classroom in a traditional way. I know that I have to come to the given hour to listen, do exercises etc. During the online courses I lose my enthusiasm or I don't want to and I don't do it in a regular way. What I like about online courses is that I can do them at my own pace. I have more time to do a task and I can read more than 2 hours in class.
4. Many people choose online learning instead of traditional courses. Internet access became publicly available. Busy people can take online courses when they have time. In addition, many courses are free, so you can try your hand at learning a new foreign language, learning programming, astrophysics, or whatever you find.
5. First of all, nobody will explain anything to us when we get stuck on a problem. We can always ask something to the teacher in the classroom, listen to curiosities and anecdotes. When learning by ourselves, sitting in front of the computer, we are on our own. Often, if we are unable to solve a problem after intensive searching for help on the Internet, our enthusiasm decreases. This also applies to regularity. It is hard to get motivated to do the next lesson sometimes for those taking online courses, especially if they encounter problems. In this case, we are only dependent on our own mobilization and motivation. In traditional courses we have the plus that we have to go for them, someone is watching over us and evaluating us. In addition, the downside of online teaching can be the format or content of a given course. We don't always find something that suits us. Will we be able to have tools on our computer to perform exercises from this course.
That's a very valuable point. If there is a problem, there is no one to help. This happens most often when the course does not have a supervisor. If there is a person who constantly monitors the progress of the course participants, there are very few such problems.
DeleteAccording to studies there are no significant difference, but it seems that it's very hard to measure.
ReplyDeleteBased on my experience it's easy to just skim through an online course and end up with the impression that you know the topic. In the traditional class you may receive an instant feedback, a teacher can ask you a question and you will have answer in front of the whole class which may be motivating.
On the other hand I find it easier and more effective to learn at home, googling up all the terms I don't understand and pausing anytime I want. But to really learn something this way I have to be serious about it, engage in solving some problems, doing homeworks etc.
One of the negative aspects of online coursers it that the interaction with the fellow students is very limited.
1. Explain the term "STEM".
ReplyDeleteSTEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is a term used to group together these academic disciplines.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
I believe that there is a difference in learning especially among the younger generation, which in the era of "the Internet" is referred to as online natives who quickly acquire knowledge available online. It's enough to reach them in the right way. Traditional teaching, in which the teacher communicates knowledge (F2F), becomes unattractive and it is increasingly difficult for teachers to reach the younger generation. B-learning, which combines different teaching methods, comes with the help.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I prefer learning through online courses. This type of teaching does not require presence in the proverbial classroom. Access to materials is at any time (unless the course teacher does otherwise). I personally participated in many online trainings and I am very happy with them. It is always possible to return to realized materials and if necessary you can process a given batch of material as many times as you like.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
As I wrote earlier, the young generation really enjoys using the basic invention of the modern world: a smartphone. At present, it can be said that the "Internet" can be the second home or the second life of a young person. Also learning using modern tools is very interesting, interesting and above all brings visible effects. Often, young people unknowingly learn foreign languages, for example (by conversing with people from other countries).
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
First of all, Internet addiction. Losing or limiting traditional message acquisition (F2F). The problem with making friends in the real world. Unfortunately, not all information available online is reliable or reliable. Access to materials that have a negative impact on the behavior of the young generation, especially exposed to various external stimuli.

DeleteAs far as I know, it's a shortcut for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
According to the article, there is no significant differences.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I'm a fan of the online learning, but not necessary in a form of end-to-end course. I like to pick cherries from the material because sometimes they are overloaded with things that are not important.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
I think that there is a big step forward, also thanks to the approach of universities which are now more open to that form of data sharing and certification.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
I'd say that, among the others we can distinguish: a lack of personal boundings, a fact that some materials are available only in the classic library, some students could suffer from a motivational issues and the effect of experiences exchange between the students is disturbed.
1. Explain the term "STEM".
ReplyDeleteThe term „STEM” means science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four mentioned disciplines. It is an interdisciplinary approach to integrate four disciplines a cohesive learning paradigm based on real applications.
2. Is there a significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning?
The authors of the article write that there is no significant difference in learning outcomes between traditional and online learning. I think that reasonable processing of teaching does not depend on method of learning: traditional or online learning. The most important aspect is the degree of student’s engagement in the learning process.
3. Do you prefer to learn in a traditional way or with online courses? Have you ever completed an online course?
I prefer to learn in a traditional way than using online courses. I like talking and asking teacher face to face. Nowadays, I learn a foreign language and I attend to the traditional course. I have chosen this option because it allows me to learn better through interaction with the teacher than using online materials even with the teacher who is available on chat or having classes, for example, by Skype. When I am on the traditional classes, I am more focused on the classes. However, I think that there are some areas where using the online course is better solution than using the traditional classes. It makes course more flexible for student.
Yes, I have completed an online course several times during my MSC and PhD studies.
4. How has the attitude of students towards online learning changed over the decade?
The world is developing all the time so everything is changing. When I attended to primary school, nobody thought about online courses, there were only traditional courses in Poland. Nowadays, there are lot of traditional courses and the approach of online courses/classes is becoming more and more popular. I think that one of the main advantages of online course is flexibility and convince.
Online courses give students the opportunity to plan study time around the rest of their day, instead of the other way around. Students can study and work at their convenience. Course material is always accessible online. The other reason why the online learning is more popular, compared to the past decade, is more comfortable learning environment - no physical class sessions required. Students listen to lectures and complete assignments sent to them electronically, with no need to fight traffic, leave work early for classes, or miss important family time.
5. What negative effects can be associated with online teaching?
The online teaching approach has advantages which I mentioned above and disadvatgaes as well. The first disadvantage is no self- discipline. One can miss some online classes because nobody checks the deadline. The next negative effect is the lack of face to face interaction. The human being has the emotions and needs emotions, the course are prepared without emotions – in an impersonal way. While e-learning can be interactive these days, through the use of video conferences, webinars, and face-to-face video chat, it still isn’t the same as sitting in the same room with a real person. The good online course is very difficult to organize. Developing a really effective e-learning course takes time, money, and a great amount of expertise. To sum up, I think that the online learning is still a challenge.
1. STEM goes for: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
ReplyDelete2. In my opinion there is not a major difference between traditional and online learning. Based on the published articles, the outcomes are quite similar in both of these methods.
3. I prefered learning from online materials even before it started to spread worldwide and became one of the most popular method. Before we got to use online courses, lot of people, including me, searched materials on Youtube and foreign websites. As until today, I finished a few online courses and I am satisfied with them and the knowledge I got from them.
4. In my opinion the amount of people taking part in online courses is increasing with the popularity of such courses. Also I am sure that beacause of its availability the attitude of student towards online learning changed in fovour of these method.
5. I think that the major problem connecting with online learning is the lack of the motivation – you don’t have a direct teacher with whom you have a daily contact face to face, therefore you don’t feel as obligated to make progress every day as you are during traditional learning.
