today I would like to raise topics related to blended learning, because I believe that each of us has or had contact with such a teaching method. Please read the article and give a short answer to the following questions.
1. What is blended learning?
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?

1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is nothing more than a hybrid of classical teaching and distance learning. Nowadays, many universities in many fields of study use this technique.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
Advantages: the ability to adapt the pace of learning to your own perception, the opportunity to learn at a time convenient for me. This is the main one.
Disadvantages: the inability to correct and check the acquired knowledge on a regular basis, the ability to use, for example, the test of "untested" sources.
(Of course in my opinion)
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
e.g. teaching on databases, open lessons,
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
Teachers will always be needed. E-learning can't do everything. Someone must enforce knowledge, think. AI can't do everything. We know very well that often it is "something" between the lines. The machine will not notice.
On the other hand, this teaching method will certainly develop very quickly, because it is simply convenient for both sides.
Thank you for your reply. I agree with you about mixed teaching, because it will bring many benefits to both students and trainers.
Delete1. Blended teaching is a combination of standard teaching methods (direct contact with the teacher) with classes conducted remotely via the Internet. The percentage of participation of a particular method depends on the course implemented, preferences or needs of students and the teacher.
ReplyDelete2. The great advantage is the flexibility of the classes. We can complete the course at our own pace without having to commit for full-time classes. The courses are tailored specifically to the user, so we are sure that we will only learn what we need, and we have unlimited access to information thanks to e-learning. Thanks to discussions on the forums, we can expand and exchange our knowledge without limiting ourselves to a group of a dozen or so.
The disadvantage of this method may be that during the course we are primarily on our own. Sometimes it's good to have someone look at our responses from the side and help in times of uncertainty. Lack of physical contact with other people who can immediately explain something to us can be a disadvantage. Often, courses may not be optimized for our needs. For example, we want to learn a programming language, but through a poorly constructed course we can feel lost and accomplish very little, feeling discouraged from further learning, because the methods presented in the course are too difficult or chaotically explained.
3. The best example are our online courses from PJATK. Other examples can be driving courses, language courses, or raising some competence in a given company.
4. I think that teachers will never prove superfluous. Even if all the courses will be e-learning, someone still needs to prepare these courses. Some people think that they are able to learn certain things themselves from books, the Internet etc. However, there is always an educated person with some knowledge behind some post, course or book and often it’s a teacher. In addition, I can't imagine that small children would be motivated to study alone at home. Moving some of the classes to the e-learning platform is a big plus, however, learning together in the classroom gives young people the opportunity not only to develop knowledge, but also social contacts. Teachers can then monitor student progress in two ways and tailor work to their needs and commitment.
Thank you for your comprehensive answer. I agree with you regarding personalization of the courses, because e-learning is a very good tool when we use it fully. When preparing courses, remember that each of us has our own learning style. It is therefore worth doing a test showing us the dominant style of learning.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteThis is distance and classic learning. Many universities offer blended learning. I think this technique is very optimal for today's life, when you need to combine work and study.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
An important priority is to divide lessons that can be remotely and lessons that should take place in a classic format, then -
Advantages:
1. saving time for the student and teacher, since the task can be done without coming to the university
2. Flexible schedule, the ability to do tasks at any time
3. Adaptive skills ;)
Disadvantages:
If the lessons were divided correctly, then there are practically no shortcomings
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
For example, now I am doing my tasks remotely)
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
I am sure that in the future, information technologies will affect all areas, including educational. It is possible that the number of teachers will decrease, and education will switch to a more remote format. But I don’t think that the machine can completely replace a person, so far.
Thank you for your reply. Like you, I think that information technology will also significantly affect education. However, for now, the "virtual teacher" cannot read emulation, so it would be difficult to conduct classes in this way. However, a good way is to divide the material into a remote part implemented with the help of a platform and a classic part implemented physically, e.g. in the classroom.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is a combination of online learning and traditional classroom learning. The ratio of the individual elements is selected depending on the course content, the needs of the students and the preferences of the teacher.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
advantages:
-The training is personalised and tailored to the needs of the participants and some of the trainers use the tests they complete before starting the training. Thanks to them, they can adapt the learning methods and the way knowledge is passed on.
-In many cases, we do not have to go anywhere, and if something is easier for us, we do not have to wait until the whole group understands.
-We can study at any time we want. It is enough that we have time and access to the Internet to broaden the scope of our knowledge.
disadvantages:
-We do not have direct contact with people, we often do not decide to contact other participants.
-There are often no tests before starting the training, the teaching methods are imposed from above, so the learning is not so effective, we do not feel motivated.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
For example, the Moodle platform, which is often used by Polish universities as an addition to traditional classes.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
People who supervise learning will always be needed because people are lazy by nature and need someone to motivate them. I think, however, that the amount of modern technologies used in teaching will continue to grow.
Thank you for your answer. As you have noticed, people are lazy and online courses combined with traditional teaching will become more popular. In addition, many universities to meet the expectations of students have many online courses. All you need is a smartphone, an internet connection and some time to perform remote tasks. After all, many people work remotely performing specific tasks on a specialized platform.

ReplyDelete1. Blended learning. It is an integrated, mixed method of education, which combines direct contact with the teacher (i.e. traditional teaching methods) with the possibility of performing selected tasks remotely (using a computer). The ratio of individual elements is selected depending on the specificity and subject matter of the course, students' needs and preferences of the conducted course, which in turn allows for flexible preparation of the training.
ReplyDelete2. In my opinion, such a system does not have any disadvantages. It has all the advantages. First of all, the trainings are personalized and tailored to the needs of the person participating in them. If we add to this the fact that combining different methods, for example individual training with e-learning, is considered to be more effective than traditional methods. Additionally, everyone has their own account, can check how they are doing, what their progress is, what they need to improve and what they are doing great. In addition to online classes, the trainer can add tips for the implementation of the exercise, a template. For me, the most important advantage is that the participant can return to the issues discussed online at any time and can use as much of the materials posted online. The evaluation by a computer quiz is also more equitable.
3. Other examples. I had a UML-GML transformation exercise. This exercise consists of developing an application schema written in the UML language and then translating it into the corresponding GML application schema written in XML Schema. Additionally, in order to verify the correctness of the applied UML-GML transformation rules, we had to generate a sample of spatial data written in GML format (XML file), which is consistent with the previously prepared XSD file (successfully goes through the schema validation process). In my opinion it was a good solution because the teaching did not have to constantly translate everything from scratch.
4) Teachers will be needed to easily explain what is written in the book in a way that is understandable for the user. But you don't need a meeting to do that.
Thank you for your answer. It is important that blended learning actually improves the quality of training or significantly supports the learning process. In addition, it is a very modern and attractive method of knowledge transfer. It has a lot of advantages, however, there will always be people who have a different opinion and claim that e-learning limits, for example, socialization. However, I think, like You, that mixed teaching will develop very quickly and that teachers will still be very much needed.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is a mixed learning metod. It combines traditional learning class with e-learning. In this methodology we can used many different learning methods that are best suitable for specified student.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
There are many advantages using blended learning. The learning proces is customized for specific student. We can used methods that are most effective for student learning process. When using e-learning students have access to many tests, lectures, presentation etc. and learn when they want and have time. We don’t need to travel to another city, country. We can learn in home. When we like face-to-face discussion then we more time spend with specialist providing course, and less time with internet learning.
The disadvantage could be setting the best ratio between traditional class and e-learning. The face-to-face discussion is important for build relationship and improve social skills. When we set less ratio for social communication the this could have negative consequence in future.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
Maybe online course for programmers. People pay and have access to materials prepared by specialists. They can talk via communicator with programmer that have a lot of experience.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
I think in the future lessons will take place in internet. Students will connect to a virtual class and talk witch teacher via communicator. Some subjects will be take palce in normal classes to improve skills that are important for relations with other humans. Today in some schools lessons are take place online. Teachers are necessary because they have many life experience that could help young student to avoid mistakes in future.
Thank you for your reply. I share your opinion on the benefits of e-learning and the fact that every subject can be taught only remotely. It is important to match materials to the needs of students using the special platform and computer techniques.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is a new approach to education that utilizing digital solutions together with traditional place – based classroom methods. this solution is becoming more and more common way of learning used by many prestige universities.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
The biggest advantages of this learning approach are convenience and flexibility, students have the ability to control their learning pace and learn remotely. Research suggests that blended learning gives learners a more comprehensive understanding of the course content. I have some experience with online learning, and for me it's working pretty great, the only thing that I was missing was face - to - face interaction, which is the addition that make blended learning unbeatable.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
My company had offer for employees many different courses e.g. health and safety, where we had traditional classes, on-line tests, and annual knowledge checks. I think that our English course is also a good example.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
In my opinion we are going towards more and more on-line learning and maybe some brand-new information technologies base approaches will conquer this market, but I don’t think that classical face – to – face learning methods will be disappeared in future.
Thank you for your answer. I agree with you about the future of this teaching method. Businesses or schools will increasingly support mixed learning because of cost savings and other benefits. The examples of applications play a big role in larger companies.
DeleteThe article focuses on blended learning in the context of traditional classes and supplementary online discussions.
ReplyDeleteA great advantage of this teaching method is that students can engage in the learning when it suits them and also review the material in their own pace.
A disadvantage if this method is that it requires self discipline from students as well as high quality of online learning platform.
Maybe our English class could be an example of blended teaching.
I'm not sure if in the future schools will be replaced with online courses. After all, learning in school with teachers and others is important social experience. If we don't want to rise a generation of pathological introverts then we shouldn't isolate students on any level of education at homes with technology.
Thank you for your answer. I think you have taken up a rather important topic about teaching at school. I am glad that you consider traditional teaching an important aspect of education. You're right, no technology can replace a person's presence face to face.
Delete1. Blended learning is a mix of traditional learning and e-learning, where you have radiional classes with the teacher as well as classes conducted on-line.
ReplyDelete2. When we consider advantages and disadvantages od blended learning we must think of that it is not a unite system. The major factor is the person or other subject who teaches students, and of course participants. We can’t be sure in advance of what we may expect from b-learning. According to the program and ways to provide knowledge to participants the main benefits of b-learning may be saving a lot of time, access to knowledge at any given time (because all of the materials can be published on-line), as well as ability to take part in on-line discussion.
The main disadvantages of which I can think are less ocassions to interact with actual peopie in real life and less motivation to learn – because it is easier to not make some assignment when we won’t be judge face to face, but just on-line.
3. I know by personal experience that b-learning is using for example in language courses – Speak Up school is present in almost all of Polish major cities, and the method is based on b-learning. We have a textbook related to multimedia classes. In textbook you can find some practical exercises and vocabulary, then you have multimedia classes, where you have excercises based on improvement of learning, reading, writing and listening skills, and then you have a lot of lessons with native speaker. The last mentiond type of classes may be participated on-line as well as in Speak Up offices.
In my opinion the main disadvantage of this method is far less lower level of teaching and given material than in the standard language school, because you don’t have direct contact with the teacher.
4. In my opinion there is no way that in the future teachers will be unneccesary. As far as I can see it, AI may be on such high level that it will be capable of explaining to students all of the material as well as human teacher, but then it will become a teacher itself, so it means that the teacher will be still neccessary.
Thank you for the quite interesting statement. I agree with you about the way you evaluate, otherwise you will evaluate a person face to face from an online student. I have some doubts about the speed of artificial intelligence development towards education. I wonder: Would artificial intelligence be able to assess the student quite realistically?

ReplyDelete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is an approach to education which combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction online with traditional classroom methods. This technique is popular among students and teachers not only for learning foreign languages, it gains popularity at some Universities. This approach helps cater to the individual needs of the learner, most students have unique learning styles and a blended approach is more likely to cater to those needs than a traditional classroom teaching experience.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
Advantages:
- availability –it enables the student to access the materials from anywhere at any time
- effectiveness – it allows to interact between the learners and their instructors through the use of emails, discussion boards and chat rooms.
- students can learn by using a variety of activities that apply to many different learning styles and have the ability to track their progress.
- satisfaction – it is good option for slow or quick learners as it both reduces stress, increases satisfaction and information retention.
Disadvatnages:
- lack of motivation – it could diminish the motivation of participants because of fact how it's set up. Not every blended learning model is suited to every age category, school, or organization.
-users could get annoyed if they don't know how to access the learning content or use the devices and they have to focus on a new system instead of on learning something new
- dissociation - It's hard to resist the temptation of looking up things on the web while learning from a computer or a smartphone.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
There is platform called Moodle which is used by universities not only in Poland. I work at the University and I also use this platform to upload my presentations and other documentation for students but students can also upload their home works and I can check it. The platform gives a lot of opportunities such conducting tests or checking the presence of students. It also allows to create groups of student and chat with them it is necessary.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
I think that teachers are and will be necessary in our generation. It is obvious that using blended learning is becoming more popular and within several years it will be even more popular but it cannot replace traditional face to face classes. In my opinion there are people in our generation who prefer face to face classes instead of online classes, for example, me. I like talking with teacher and asking him face to face. Teachers have experience and can help to avoid the mistakes which their previous students had done. I guess that most of people will choose online option because there are a lot of advantages of online teaching so I suppose that teachers could be unnecessary in next generations. It is possible that AI will be so developed so every student will have his/her own robot-teacher at home.
Thank you for the interesting statement. I am glad that you use this type of learning learning. Convenience, availability at any time, the possibility of returning to implemented content many times affects the popularization of this type of education. As for robot robots, I believe that we still have to wait a lot, because how does a robot assess whether someone has a desire to learn or does something of a must ?
DeleteBlended learning relies on a mixture of traditional classes supported by e-learning courses. It requires a student to be slightly more highly motivated to achieve good scores without additional motivation factors. In my opinion, there would be very difficult to eliminate teachers in-person in the process of advanced knowledge learning distribution, especially where it comes to U.S. universities with very high tuition paid for essential personnel and prestige.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the statement. I think you're right about teachers. I suspect that people attending prestigious universities will expect face-to-face classes with outstanding teachers rather than any system of full-fledged teaching.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning is a method used in education, merging traditional in-class course with online course.
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
In my opinion the most important advantage is the flexibility. Students could take part in a course any place and any time they prefer.
The disadvanages are lack of immediate answer to the problem student faces and limited possibilities of direct discussion, which may be very fruitfull.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
I think that blended learning is becoming more and more common. Many courses and trainings (especially in IT domain) requires working in class and online before or after the meeting.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
Information technologies are only the knowledge dissemination instruments. Human mentors are always essential, no matter if they are in the same room or in another continent.
Thank you for the interesting statement. I agree with you about the presence of teachers in the student, because teaching is not only about learning but also upbringing. And remote teaching is supporting the acquisition of knowledge using information technology.
Delete1. What is blended learning?
ReplyDeleteBlended learning seems to be a blend of traditional classes and online ones. It's not surprising the researchers are from Australia...
2. Give the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method?
It depends on person: students being observed in the experiment fall into two categories, one gaining greater profits from discussions in general and on-line especially, while for other group it was merely a chore. For sure, it allows for better time use in distributed environments.
3. What examples do you know (other than in the article) of using blended learning?
All those IT courses consisting of online presentations, foras/mailing lists and physical classes I think.
4. What could be the future of teaching and learning? Will information technologies dominate teaching so that teachers become unnecessary?
I don't think we can learn without teachers in general. It might be possible to absorb facts easier today, using information technology, but building real knowledge from those facts requires interaction with someone we'd call teacher and I think it won't change.
Thank you for the interesting statement. I'm glad you noticed remote learning as a distributed environment. It is important to properly use this type of software, to follow certain rules so that remote teaching supports the learning process, and does not completely replace it. Because relationships obtained in a traditional way face to face are realistic and not virtual.
