Week 2 [ 09.04-15.04.2018] Online Shopping Values and Purchase Behaviour

Dear all,

This week I would like to present my thoughts on something that became inevitable part of our lives - online shopping. We are all familiar with that subject and probably almost everyday we shop or purchase online either tickets, food or something else.

In recent years there have been an increase in the number of researches on factors that influence customers behaviour and check the intentions as well as values that we are looking for in online shopping. It is not a secret that many psychologists, analysts and specialists in field of online marketing are working very hard to explore and analyse new methods of attracting our attention to the product. From customer’s perspective we face problems like financial risk, non-delivery risk, return policy inconsistencies, customer service problems and many more. There is no doubt that we want to be sure that what we paid for will be delivered, it will be as described and will meet our expectations. I present few links to scientific articles on developments made in last few years.

  1. 1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Yes, I don’t remeber what that was but I purchased a product. When I opened a box I didn’t belive that this is a product what I wanted. It looked completely different than in the picture.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

I think that online shopping is safe, provided that you are careful when choosing a store, read the regulations carefully and check the security of the website. There are some products that are better to buy in a traditional store than online, e.g. shoes, clothes.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

I think so. The consumer can withdraw from the contract and return the goods within 14 calendar days without giving a reason.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

I don't have such an idea. Currently, online stores offer additional protection and help in the event that the seller turns out to be dishonest. Such a service is e.g. allegro

    1. Thank You for answer. I guess especially shopping from private sellers on portals like Allegro is dangerous, I have heard about sending potatoes instead of expensive phone and it is hard to prove what was inside the box. Very often I chose to try the phone myself and most of the times they are not working. If we talk about huge online stores of course it is safe, but what about some small shops, private businesses and unknown brands. It is hard to believe that they know a lot about security of transactions.

  2. 1)Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

I happened to buy something a few times that stood out from the seller's description, but usually the products are well described. Of course, you need to pay attention, especially at allego, olx, ebuy, alliexpress, in online stores less often, for "small print" or "stars" especially regarding returns of goods or delivery costs.

2)Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

Nowadays online shopping are safe. You have to watch out for counterfeit websites, such as the bank websites. Don't give credit card numbers, check HTTPS connection and buy. In my opinion, we can encounter the same problems diuring you buy the online and in the store. The seller can also copy your card.

3)Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

Today, yes. Previously, there were many understatements but today it's not bad.

4)Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

I don't think you need to change anything. Online stores give support, allego gives support, everyone tries to secure the buyer.

    1. Thank You for answer. I notices lately that shops take more care of describing products in more complex way. I think that some attacks of hackers are still possible. Still I guess only big players on the market have monopol when you consider security as major factor when choosing supplier. Very often shops use Wordpress with some plugins that not always work as they should. I guess we still consider law in European Union but when looking globally is does not look that good. Still buying something from independent stores in USA or Australia seems more complicated and unsure.

  3. 1. I have purchased online a product that was not as it should be. It was painting brushes, which I wanted to give as a birthday present. Their quality was inconsistent with the description from the seller. I use the opportunity to give this back.

    2. I don’t think that online shopping is secure. There are pages, which reassure more safety shopping, than others. One that I especially like is „Zalando”, because you have good contact with their helpline, parcels are delivered in few days and it has very nice, easy to use app. I had once a situation that my order became lost in a fake online shop. But I didn’t check them in the Internet, which as I realised later, was full of negative opinions.

    3. I think that law is regulating in a sufficient way. Too much law regulations would be too casuistic. We also have private sellers from websites like olx or allegro, for whom too much law regulations would be harmful. But for sure If I only can, I would add one regulating somehow the waiting time.

    4. Online shopping would be much more attractive for me if there was a one pack tracking website for everyone, because when I shop for something from abroad I am always worried about the delivery. I don’t know if there is a possibility to regulate it in law.

    1. Thank You for answer. That is absolutely great that for a while we can return products without any problems. I mean usually, of course sometimes there are some argues with sellers. I also know some situations where during shopping in foreign shop it was counterfeit and money were lost. Bank did not want to do anything about that and they just said that everyone have to think where they shop online. Your idea about one tracking website is very good, but I also do not think it is easy to do and especially regulation with that is not really possible.

  4. 1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Yes, I got a digital camera that did not have the parameters from the description. I had no problem with the return

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

I think that online shopping are safety if they are using https encryption. I don't find a problem that I could avoid in stationary shore.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

Yes! We have many privilege which are unavailable in stationary shop.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

In first moment I thought about biometric confirmation, but they aren't safety so I don't have idea.

    1. Thank You for answer. So there is still so many situations where products are not as they were described and somehow this return process is still taking our time and sometimes is complicated. Also for me it is frustrating when I have to pay for delivery and for return even if product was not described well or when it was not working correctly. In my opinion there should be a law taking care of delivery cost when the problem was caused by seller.

  5. Questions to answer:
1.Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Yes, I believe I have, however, I cannot recall when and where. Nonetheless, I remember I had no problems with getting the refund. Nowadays, online sellers are more reliable than it used to be a few years ago.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

It is hard to say because, for example, a leakage of data may happen to any vendor (eg. MSBHV online shop) -I consider it as a lottery. There are many security levels, like payments, data storage, etc., which may fail. Theoretically it may happen for stationary store when you use some kind of a smart card. I think that 'Biedronka' had problems with the protection of the data of clients while introducing something 'club cards'.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
I think so because there are many regulations which enable sufficient protection of transactions.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
No, not really. I don't have any ideas.

    1. Thank You for answer. That is absolutely true that nowadays it is completely different than it was few years ago. So in stationary shop you can pay with cash and online you can pay cash when delivery will be to your home but it cost more. Still I would try to make some laws about international transactions because many times I have some reserves to not buy there. Maybe trusted shops helps a bit but it still seems not so reliable.

  6. 1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Yes of course, I ordered a couple of things on AliExpress. In the pictures, they looked really great, so I was really excited waiting for them (and believe me it took a lot of time for them to finally arrive). When I got the package I felt nothing but dissapointment. The quality was really poor and the items didn't look like the ones in the picture at all.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

I think so. I do 90% of all my shopping online. I hate going to stationary stores mainly because of the fact that the options are really limited. Internet provides us with real abundance of products, whereas in the stationary store you have one or two things which you can choose from (if you are lucky).

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
    In my opinion, yes.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

No, not really. We have 14 days to return the product if we dislike it, so I guess that law in terms of safety is not that bad.

    1. Thank You for answer. Oh yes definitely when buying on websites like AliExpress is almost obvious that product will look differently. I know... I am so glad for customer protection and that you can really get your money back. I ordered watch probably 7 times from different sellers and none of them were sent, so after almost 2 month I was fighting for my money back. That is so funny that this conversation takes so long, and they even do not provide right tracking numer, I mean syntax is even wrong, either numer is too short or consist of letters instead of numbers. This is just ridiculous. I have the same problems with stationary shopping plus there is so many people and they act so chaotic that it is a nightmare.

I was lucky enough to always get what I ordered.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
In todays word nothing is secure, in every software you can find bug and usually security is not what programmers care a lot during project (because of deadlines), so my answer will be short - No. Hmmm the only thing that I can avoid when I am buying at stationary shops is expiration date. But as I said before I didin't have any issues with online shops.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
I think that polish law regulations are not sufficient enough in any matter. So there is a lot to do in this area.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I see that we are getting further from computer science but ok. I don't know how we can improve law regulations and I don't care about it.

I think that especially grocery shopping is quite unsure, and as you mentioned expiration date is not something you can check. Yes this is not about computer science, but still law is quite important aspect.

I try to choose only trusted shops and sellers with many positive reviews, so I have not yet received any goods that do not comply with the product description.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

I think online shopping is safe. Actually, there is nothing I wouldn't be able to buy online. As I said before, I have never had any problems shopping online.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

The law regulates online shopping correctly. We as customers only need to know our fundamental rights and be able to enforce them.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

I have no idea of improving the law in this area, because I think it is already well-designed. In addition, online shops usually provide an additional layer of protection through their services.

    1. Thank You for answer. I am really surprised maybe I am just not lucky, but it happens very often that I do not get things consistent with the description. Of course now we can use PayPal, Przelewy24 or other quite safe payment providers, but still there is a chance that something can go wrong, or their system might be hacked. That is good that there was few campaigns that I have seen on bus stations and in public places that informed about customer rights. Such kinds of advertisements seems to be very important and are not annoying.

There is no difference between a landline shop and an online shop. Very often shops sell in both modes.

I do not have an idea for such a regulation. Purchase and sale is a civil contract. If a party breaks it, you can report the case to the police as a fraud.

    1. Thank You for answer. That is good, as I mentioned customer protection is something very important and all of the shops should have something like that. Surprisingly when I was buying from small shop from Germany they send me a package before paying and just attached the invoice with information how I should pay. That was a huge shock for me and I think that a lot of people would take is as something stupid and used the opportunity to not pay. But in very optimistic version of world that is how it should really work. Yes you can report it but only if it exceeds some fixed amount of money, below this amount you cannot do anything.

  10. 1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?
No I have never purchased online a product that do not match the description. Usually I order products from recommended stores. I avoid buying clothes and shoes from unknown sellers because I have seen many stories about getting the products that was completely different than these on the photos.
    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
I think it is secure I have never had serious problems with that. The only problem for me is that I have to wait for delivery and sometimes couriers are late or they come when I am not at home.
    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
For me it is but as I said before I have never had serious problems. The most important thing for me is that I can return the product in 14 days.

    1. Thank You for answer. So it seems that bigger stores with good advertisement still have advantage over smaller or just starting companies. Partially it reasonable but still is closes opportunity for smaller companies. Yes the delivery is often a huge problem, you never know when they will actually come. That is why I prefer Paczkomaty or some poste restante options.

  11. 1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?
Yes, and it seems to me that this is a common situation. The basic problem in online sales is the adequacy of the description, which is usually incomplete: understatement or information only about selected features of products.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
It depends on the sales portals. Some of them meet the requirements of relative cyber security, such as https, secure payments or validation of the identity of the sellers. In a stationary store, I can always check the quality of the materials used in the product. It is unattainable when shopping online.

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
It is not my cup of tea however I think that law is better for customers buying online. You can return the product purchased online within 14 days without giving a reason. When buying in a stationary store, this right does not apply.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I am not a lawyer, but I would suggest to look at the issue of seller validation on portals such as OLX where there is poor control of the sellers.

    1. Thank You for answer. I would say that the biggest problem is first of all not having a standardisation of description - there should be a rule what information should be provided and everywhere it should be the same, secondly there is a hard factor - people have different perception of what is the current state of product. For some it is very good for others is just good, but still you don't know what it actually mean. Yes that is true, I think that there should be more informations and control over sellers everywhere.

  12. I made few purchases of products that were inconsistent with a description. I usually buy products that don't require me to rely only on a seller's description. My greater concern is if an offered product is original or not.

In a store, it's often possible to test products before purchase. However, if it's not the case then I think that it doesn't differ too much from online shopping. When I think about it, I encountered more disappointments after shopping offline than online.

I think that online shopping is regulated properly. First of all, as a consumer, you have 14 days to return anything and this low must be executed almost unconditionally. You have even greater leverage if you buy through big services like Amazon or Allegro. Even you buy from individuals you're quite safe. Once I bought a RAM and received literally an electronic trash. It was obvious that I was deceived so I even didn't try to contact a seller. A few weeks later I was contacted by the police to testify against the deceiver. I received a full refund a few months later.

For me, online shopping is reasonably secure and comfortable, mostly due to pro-consumer law, third-party services and customer reviews. Still, I don't like buying clothes online though.

    1. Thank You for answer. Originality of products is a huge deal and probably the biggest concern during online purchases. Very often we can see offers on allegro with much lower prices but it is hard to know why they offer such a deal. Yes that's true, nobody mentioned that offline shopping is also very disappointing, mostly because you get the product that is not brand new but tried by many other people when it come to clothes or shoes, so basically they are not new.

Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
According to me, the use of well-known stores and the preservation of basic security in the network. It makes shopping safe. I have not encountered such problems, I do not buy jeans online - I would always have a problem :)

Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
    Recently it has improved.

Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I do not have such ideas. I think that much now also depends on the goodwill of the sellers.

    1. Thank You for answer. So again just well-known shops have advantage. What do you mean by goodwill of the sellers? I have no clue what depends only on them. I think that law regulation states clearly what they have to do and there is not much depending on theirs will. So there are some products that still are problematic. I think that also it is hard to understand all sizes that differs among manufacturers - some use 40/42 and some 30x32 while other use 10/12.

Bfore I stared buying on Aliexpress I never had a problem with quality or inconsistency with description. But as I started my shopping journey with Aliexpress few times delivered goods was really bad quality and do not like as in the picture. Unfortunatelly cost of returning those goods to China are to high that only way for fighting with those sellers is to warne other buyers.
Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
Till now I do not have any problems with security, but recently my cousins had problem with her credit card information was stolen, and it was because she wasn’t using VPN while she was browsing the internet on someone else’s WiFi. A Virtual Private Network is intended to unrestrict your access to internet in places where censorship and monitoring of your online activity are a problem. What many people don’t realize is that it also adds an extra encryption step between you and potential hackers or cyber-threats, so you’re much safer while using online services. Just the touch of a button on your mobile device protects you and the service is very affordable.
Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
In my opinion there is still place for improvement. Cybersecurity is one of the most crucial features of electronic commerce. Without proper protocols in place, online retailers put themselves and their customers at risk for payment fraud. Smaller stores face even greater ecommerce security risks due to insufficient internet safety from cybercriminals.
Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I think we need more regulations about security levels on ecommerce websites. But I am not a law specialist :) so this is only my considerations

    1. Thank You for answer. That is true that AliExpress is very problematic. Especially the problem is that most of their opinions are fake and generated by sellers. What is more it is just overloaded with information and it is not clear. And the most annoying part is very long waiting time for delivery. It is a great tip to use VPN, also try to avoid public networks like in McDonalds it seems they are made for hackers. There should be more focus on cybersecurity.

  15. Hi, below you can find my answers.

    Questions to answer:
Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?
Yes, I have purchased online a headphones. It was about 10 years ago when the biggest platform in Poland had issues with abuses. Dishonest seller sent me a headphones that were visually the same as original - unfortunately quality of volume was extremely poor. He sent me back the money, but it was a lesson for me. If something is to cheap - think twice if you want to buy it.
Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
Right now for sure. You have to control, where you put information about credit card / bank account (the biggest risk for me). Law regulations leads to remove unfair sellers from the market. Sometimes to much - because people try to check or even use a product and send it back to the seller after couple days of tests. It causes that the sellers costs raises and they have to increase product prices.
Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
Oh, I wrote about it above :). Yes… the only think that I do not like is privacy conditions. It is not directly connected with online shopping (I hope so), but I do not like when I get a call from call centre.
Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I think it is fine. Right now customer has a possibility to claim for its rights. When something is not right with a product - we can send it back to the seller without any cause.

    1. Thank You for answer. That is so true, really low price should be a warning. I am very sceptical about card payments online, if they have your data they can use it later on. I had problem with booking.com when they stole a lot of money from me few years ago. Dishonesty of buyers it also very important how seller can be trustworthy when clients are also tricking them. Very often you have to permit privacy conditions to even buy something small and later on you have endless calls.

  16. Let me state, that this topic is exotic for me. I see the method (hypotheses H1 through Hn etc.), but the actual subject matter is very opaque for me. Except maybe for the observation, that if someone has an intent to make a purchase, then it is a good predictor of the purchase occurring in the near future.

    1. Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

I have experienced buyer's remorse or have otherwise been underwhelmed by the outcome. I once bought something titled 'window cleaning machine' which was actually a glorified glass wiper. But I haven't been a victim of an outright fraud.

    2. Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

Once we almost bought an appliance which was 25% cheaper than elsewhere. I ran a search on websites documenting frauds - there are quite a few, and a simple google/bing/duckduckgo search usually leads to one of these, if an actual fraud is detected.

One sign of a fraud is either the lack of CoD (cash on delivery) option, or when it is prohibitively expensive (offsetting the "bargain" of the 25%).

    3. Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

The Polish legislation is reasonable in this regard (14 day 'no strings attached' return possibility - this is not to be taken for granted). Maybe it's not perfect, but I don't see any evident loopholes.

    4. Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

I'm against over-regulation in general, it's better to educate people about online and e-commerce safety. Fraud and theft are already outlawed, and I'm not competent to recommend any legislative changes.

    1. Thank You for answer. That's good that You did not have any bigger problems with purchases online. I think that our generation is somehow more aware of possible problems and we know how to check everything online, but average consumer probably it not that well educated. I would say that CoD is not that alarming, especially that very often customers do not take delivery and seller have to pay for 2 deliveries from own pocket which is a bit unfair. So maybe there should be a bit more education.

  17. 1. Actually yes, I’ve bought sports treadmill. I’ve considered buying this could be a good idea for me, because I love jogging, but I have no possibility to do it outdoor, having 3 small kids. But it turned out to be a disaster. It was huge and heavy, and difficult to install by myself at home – otherwise that it was presented in the advertisement on producer’s webpage :-( Finally I decided to send it back and demanded to give back my money. I really regret this is how it ended, but for some time I gave up this idea.
    2. It is no possible to answer this question “yes” or “no”. It depends on the seller, the article, the time, the transport etc. What convinces me to choosing traditional way of shopping, is possibility to touch the thing, to pick it up, to smell, to try. Like with reading – I cannot get used to the idea of using computer, I prefer real books. I guess I am old fashioned about traditional activities, including buying, and it has nothing to do with safety. The situation described above convinced me to conservative opinion, and this is an example of problem I could have avoided, buying using traditional way instead of online one.
    3. I don’t think so. On the other hand, the provisions concerning consumers’ rights are really useful and make me feel more secure and less helpless, when something goes wrong, like in the case described in point 1 above. Honestly, I think the law regulations could be more restrictive in this respect.
    4. I don’t think any law regulations will be enough to make online shopping 100% safe. Always the risk will be ours. Let’s not think that we can replace our thinking by law or IT system. It is important to take care about the transactions we conclude, either traditionally, or online. In my opinion the seller should be the party, who must convince the customer to buy online from him. Otherwise I wouldn’t invest my money. There are many sellers with positive opinions in respect of safety, and making deals with them is safe. If the seller doesn’t care about “good fame” about him, then he’s not worth of cooperation – for me transactions with him are not safe and there are no law possibilities to avoid such risk.

This way you can obtain 'new' product not the one touched and tried by many before you. There are some ideas about the future that there will be no stationary shops at all. A little scary to thing about fuch future. If seller is not having good fame, he can just create new account and have a fresh start.

  18. Have you ever purchased online product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Internet market is not a safety place for customers. Most of websites that provide online products don’t have guarantee term or even returning, but they require fully prepayment. That’s why I choose Internet shops that are registered on European and other civilized countries, which are more safety to users.

The answer to the first question I have already discussed in the previous topic. In a stationary store you can easily try the clothes you buy and choose the right size or see the product before buying, so you will be sure that seller doesn’t fool you with the description of the product.

Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

Yes, I think in Europe the law regulates online shopping good enough.

Do have any ideas to improve law regulations so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe customers?

According to previous answer, European law about Internet markets is comfortable for customers. So I don’t think that ideal can be improved in any way.

    1. Thank You for answer. That is true at least one thing that Europe did correctly. Still distant shopping is somehow more complicated and not all websites have same standards. But is only description that important? Still in shop you are manipulated to buy more products than you want, there is less time for rational thinking and there is shop staff that is trying to push you.

  19. 1) Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

Thankfully no. I always try to make strong research of the seller and product itself to avoid such complications.

    2) Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

I think that it is a too broad question. Some of the stores are properly secured as well as their payment systems, and some of them are even lacking SSL encryption.

    3) Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

In my opinion- yes, a possibility of returning purchased products within 14 calendar days without giving a reason is pretty sufficient.

    4) Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

RODO is coming, we would see what would happens :)

    1. Thank You for answer. I think we should say more about RODO, I am really interested how many disasters it will provide. I am sure that a lot of sellers does not have any idea what it is and how they should change their's websites. But still it seems to be a good opportunity for developers to earn some extra cash. I was just asking for general perception, of course some stores are ridiculous and were not updated since the first release.

  20. Thanks for interesting materials. Quite often I do online shopping and only once I had a situation that the product wasn’t compatible with the order - the seller made a mistake, but there were no problems or additional costs associated with the exchange. (It would be nice to get something for extended waiting time) An important problem related to shopping is the fact that we don’t see the object and in some cases it is difficult to assess its size properly. Physical dimensions are sometimes not enough, whereas photos do not give a good sense of reference. I believe that the law regulates the rules of Internet commerce quite well and both sides are quite safe. There are certainly some gaps, but I do not see them.

    1. Thank You for answer. Of course mistakes happens, once I ordered a suitcase that was not in perfect condition but it was really small thing but seller sent me another one for free and did not want the first one to be returned which was quite a positive surprise. But such moments are unique. I think that time is the biggest concern and factor that is annoying. If we could get order quicker there will be more purchases online.

  21. 1 Have you ever purchased online a product that was inconsistent with the description provided by seller?

I had two situations when I haven't received product at all. To be honest I have noticed this fact after about two months. When I finally write an email to shop I have received no respond.

2 Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?

If you use services like allegro or ceneo, I think it is 99% secure. Moreover if you pay with credit card you are 100 % safe even if product will be not delivered at all. All transactions are insured.

When there is something wrong with product (in few months after purchase) and I want it to be repaired it would be much easier to deliver it by private car to shop around the corner than "fight" with courier.

3 Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?

I think there are no serious issues which should be addressed.

4 Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?

In my opinion we have very customer supporting law, so probably we should think how to protect sellers from dishonest buyers. I have heard about people ordering some stuff from few sources and paying only for the first delivery. According to the law there is no problem at all.

    1. Thank You for answer. Wow that's a big deal. What was the end of the situation? I would be careful with ceneo, they very often provide websites that payed them to be there, but they sell unauthentic products. I think that there should be option of checking every delivery once you get them, because later on you have problems with explaining why something is wrong.

Yes, it happened to me a few times, but only when buying second-hand some items already advertised as broken. Sellers forgot to mention some other damages of items, still it were good deals.
But never when buying brand-new item, either in online shop nor auction site, even chineese.

2 Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
I think online shoppling is inherently less secure than brick-and-mortar. But nowadays this margin is very thin. One of problems that almost never happens in stationary store is speed of delivery. It is impossible to wait 6 months for an item in stationary, while can happen in online store (I did, and still item was as advertised).

3 Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
I think yes, and I would be very carefull in applying any changes to regulations. It frequently happens that regulators don't consider cross-border sales carefully enough, and then little ugly monsters like VAT-MOSS gets born...

4 Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
I don't think I have enough knowledge and experience to give any ideas that would do more good than harm.

    1. Thank You for answer. He probably didn't want to mention them rather than forget, but this is common situation. So we all came to conclusion that there is huge field for improvement when it comes to delivery. For instant calando provide such option but it costs 49 zł which is a bit insane.

    I can happily say, no I haven't.
Is online shopping in your opinion secure? Have you encountered problems that you could have avoided if you bought in a stationary store?
Secure in which terms? The only problem is with the size of clothes. If you are buying gadgets or something similar then you are probably safe. However, it's worth to use trusted shops. You can easily buy something far from what was in the offer on allegro.
Is law regulating online sales in a sufficient way?
In my opinion, yes. There is always room for improvement, but I think we are close.
Do you have any ideas to improve law regulations, so that online shopping is more comfortable and safe for customers?
This is not my field, I'm not a lawyer :) As I have stated in the first question, I never had any real issues so maybe this leads to an even bigger problem in answering this question.
