Please view of a short presentation which show how technology and research help athletes to achieve better and better results.
Please answer the questions.
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteI'm a person with absolutely no opinions when it is about sport :D
But let me try.
I think that introducing new and better technologies is not a problem as long as it is fair for sportsmen performing in the same time. It just has to be stressed out that technology changes and so does the performance.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
Car racing is also a sport, very dependent on the technology but also involving human factor. The technology to human factor ratio just changes. It also changes with improvements of the technology. Each sport has it's own ratio, that can and will evolve. Therefore I do not agree with the statement.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
It's hard question but I think that there should be no constrains as far it remains fair for all participants of the competition. I do not believe in the quality of the certain sport. Go ahead and experiment with technology, producers and products as far it is fair for all contestors.
About your answerer to second question I agree that car racing is very dependent on technology, but by example in F1 every year they bring some limitations because it is very often that this technology kill spectacle because one team with the best car wins the most races which makes it that fans are bored with this. For example in this year F1 was more attractive than in previous years
Delete1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteIf everyone had access to the same technology, then athletes would still compete in a fair way. But that's not how it is now in most sports.
If we tried to keep everything constant (no new technology, same conditions every year, same training), then that would result in less and less new world records. Maybe people would lose interest in certain sports thinking that the best athlete was already born?
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
The spirit of sport may be lost, but I think it helps with the popularity of sports as I explained above. On the other hand, when professional sport becomes too advanced, sports fans may not like that either. Because then it will seem completely out of reach for the average person and harder to relate to and to be excited about.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
I think hard work is always required and there's no doubt current athletes are working harder than ever in history.
The committees who are in charge of overseeing different sports must be aware of these problems and it's their job to put limits on technology. They will look at the reaction from fans and adjust it accordingly. For example I didn't know they changed the design of bikes (from the video) used in cycling competitions.
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteThere is constant technology development and not making any use of it would be irrational. Otherwise, we would still be playing tennis with wooden rockets or riding a bike with a big front wheel. Moreover, it is often sport that accelerates technology development in certain areas. With all that said, there should be some regulation when introducing new improvements so that it is well tested and suited for purpose.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
In my option technology does not make that much impact in comparison to the preparation needed. The technology supporting sportsmen quickly becomes affordable for an average person so that is not an obstacle. I think that it is doping that is killing the idea of sport and competition.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
As I have already stated in the previous questions, I think that we should make use of technology in sports provided that it is under control. We should focus most of our attention on the fight with doping as it kills the idea of sport and ruins the results of hard work of people who want to play fair.
I don't agree with you that In technology does not make that much impact in comparison to the preparation needed
Deletelook at the swimmers as they began to use the suits that looked like shark skin to reduce water resistance that swimmers who did not have access to that achieved much worse results than those who had used it. The same situation occurred in ski jumping, which banned the use of special suits that give better results
It does not make impact on competition between sportsmen. If there is a new technology available (e.g. suit) everyone will start using it and the impact will be gone.
DeleteFor amateur sportsmen (like you and me) do you think it would make great difference in swimming if one of us wore the suit?
I agree that at our level is rather insignificant but in the case of professional sports I do not agree that if a technology is available then everyone is being used because such solutions are expensive and whoever will not have the sponsor at the beginning it may not to have access to such solutions
DeleteFirst of all I need to say that I haven`t been alerted of the problem so far. Having watch the movie it occurred the matter is more serious than I had thought before.
ReplyDeleteQ1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
I think that every domain of our life should develop so sport and competitions too. But there is one very important aspect. If technology develops it should be open for all athletes or sportsman.
Q2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and ACCESS to better technology?
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in Q1 technology should be open and available for all sportsmen during the build-up and tournaments. But of course it is impossible because of the tight budget of some sportsman. From this point of view new technology is killing the idea of sport. On the other hand we need to know that nowadays sports means playing chess, athletics, cycling and I am not allowed to apply the previous sentence to all sports. But for athletics technology should be comparable over the years - compare the results from the movie between Jesse Owens 10.22 in 1936 and Usain Bolt 9.77 in 2013.
Q3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion technology should interfere in clothes only. It refers to athletics mainly. Technology should not support athletes is achieving the best results. The best example is Oscar Pistorius. Should we compare his results to another?
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteI think there always be country in competition that do everything to achieve victory. To me it is inevitable.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
Well sooner or later we face the problem of cyborgs competition with humans. Was mentioned Oscar Pistorius. Technology will not stop on chemistry and cloths. Our generation will come by problem of synthetic muscles or titan bones. In my opinion we will manage to solve this problem in future as we managed to ban doping in sports.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
In my opinion there should be no boundaries. Let’s look on Paralympics. Record and first place is not as important as possibility of participation. In future we will watch competition between robots. And as far as I know technology progress is also connected with hard work.:) Maybe I am killing the true spirit of sport but there be always space of pioneers even in that field like sport.
1. I think it depends on the discipline. In F1 technology is probably half the battle. However, in running technology does not play such a role.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that the technology in sport is not necessary. Definitely technology kills the idea of sport.
3. The best result is always the result of hard work. I believe that technology should not interfere in the sport because it is a competition for people and not for science.
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteI don’t have a problem with research and technology interfering with their performance. From my non-athlete perspective it results in better bikes, suits, etc., and makes sport events more interesting.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
If something is killing the idea of sport, it’s probably steroids, not technology. None of the things mentioned in this TED talk seemed to be harmful in any way to competitors, while steroids put their health at risk and make the whole competition unfair. I think that the best players have access to the best equipment anyway, so this probably isn't like Harry Potter flying the best broomstick, making everyone else feel bad.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
I’m not sure how far the technology can go to help them. In motor sports, probably quite far. Running - as we learned from this TED talk, it can improve their results quite a bit. But I don’t know what else could be done to help runners improve their results. Or do I?
I agree with you with steroids kill the idea of sport recently I watched a documentary about the fraud Armstrong and I was shocked how many people are deceived and how in those days looked races where most of the players were using steroids
DeleteQ1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance athletes?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, till we talk about interfering of technology it's ok. But the problem is about interfering of doping drugs and other boosters. Even if they are allowed by law, unfair is to compare athlete who competed "on bread and water" with today's athlete.
Q2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
I think that technology is helping to popularize the idea of sport. It's not only about the equipment of athlete but also about the show. The faster we run the more people wants to watch it or become the same. The popularity of achievments winds up each other.
Q. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
I think that we won't escape from better and better technology in sport. We should remember about old champions and how they achieved this. Today's athletes even they are helped by technology, they have also competitive spirit and desire to improve performance.
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteA:/> Why not. That's a game right? So, the competition needs some boost.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
A:/> Although the answer depends to the type of sport, in general I don't think this is the case since the technology is available for all the teams with similar levels.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in you opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
A:/> I don't think the technology subject to the question keeps sportsman from hard work. Player A, and B has similar technologies involved, winner will be the most talented / hard working one.
1. Do you think that technology should so interfere with the performance of athletes?
ReplyDeleteThere is the case of Oscar Pistorius and the claims that his running blades are giving him an advantage over natural legs and that he should not compete in the same bracket as non-handicapped people. More about it here here.
2. Do you think technology is killing the idea of sport according to which competition should win the player with the best preparation and not this player who has the best equipment and access to better technology?
Life is not fair. We are not all equipped with the exact same copies of natural limbs and body that are advantageous in situations like competitive sports. It is all about a combination of predispositions and hard work. Some people just have it a little bit easier than others. Usually those deviations don’t really matter but with accuracy being set to millimeters or milliseconds it does provide ground for controversies.
3. How far in your opinion technology should interfere with sport to help athletes achieve even better results and what do you think about this result which are achieve thanks to technology in your opinion these results are really the result of hard work?
Technology should interfere in sports as much as it is still described to be fair and this measure is done by the committees that organize tournaments. So it depends on a factor that humans set.
