Week 9: Post millennial generation

Many people are trying really hard to figure out how to effectively target audience of customers called "Millennial Generation". This is important because this people (born between 1981 and 2000) are big and powerful part of the market. We can more or less figure out how this group behaves. 93% of them are avid Internet users (compared to 88% of adults ages 35-54 and 42% of adults ages 55 and older), they used to be very comfortable with new technology and social media and so one but for me much more interesting is next "Post Millennium" generation so kids born after Y2K. Representatives of this generation are lead and educated by Millennials so parents or teachers of these kids are familiar with social networks and can find every useful knowledge in internet. This allows teaching really young people amazing thinks potentially not available for their parents in that age.

Like in those videos:

14-Year-Old Prodigy Programmer Dreams In Code
Teen Speaks Over 20 Languages

Or just tech them in extraordinary way.

  1. What do you think about post millennium generation?
  2. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will be better educated / prepared for adult live then millennium generation?
  3. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will easily solve problems inherited from our generation like: problems of minorities, religious radicals, political correctness, unemployment and so on?

  1. The young people who take part in this BlogSpot topic seem fantastic. They somehow remind me of a young Carl Friedrich Gauss. As we remember the young Carl Friedrich was such a prodigy that he was able to count before he learnt to speak. (or so he claimed). We also know that his findings and all his work made the world of his time a better place (that is the 18th and 19th centuries). Thus, more and more frequently these days thanks to the Internet and social media: ("Facebook ", etc.). More and more such geniuses will turn up, and what is more, they will be better and better educated. I am not certain if the author has in mind those s gifted individuals or rather the genius of the whole post-millennial generation, let us optimistically assume, however, that all of this generation will be such. In this very optimistic scenario, my answers to the questions within this topic are as follows:

    1. In fact , the answer has already been given: for the first time in human history we have a fantastic new generation. Yet, an idea occurred to me that I have heard it somewhere, perhaps a number of times before ).

    2. Well, how this might have been otherwise, after all they must be better educated and better prepared for adult life, as they integrate into the Internet (any plug at the back of the head will do), they will possess practically all our knowledge and will be able to solve every and all problems that previous generations could not handle , most likely because of the absence of such possibilities .

    3. This is what I strongly believe (with hope close to certainty). Such prospects lure me. I assume this brilliant post-millennial generation will tackle first the healthcare issue. For us all to improve health and thus the quality of life, and consequently life expectancy. Postmillennial generation will come of age as early as in three years’ time and taking into the consideration
the fact that it has already started to improve the existing world so creatively, I expect that in five years' first effects will be easily noticed. I do not expect (particularly in the country where I live), that issues such as lifestyle deseases will be addressed immediately. However, I hope that at least an appointment to the family doctor would be able to be made one day in advance (after all, in the 80s and even 90s it was still possible) instead of waiting for a few weeks.

  2. I don't really share such an optimistic view about this "post millenium generation". Those three movies might seem pretty inspiring, but these are not ordinary teenagers. Every generation had its share of geniuses and this one is no different. For every genius, there are thousands of ordinary people - and perhaps thousands of "less than ordinary" ones, to put it mildly. It is true that these geniuses have more opportunities nowadays than they had in the past - but so does everyone else. The bar is set higher for everyone... or at least that's the theory.

If anything, my opinion on this subject would be quite the opposite. The people are becoming lazy, using various shortcuts instead of doing honest work/learning, far too engrossed in social media while ignoring real life. They're also easily distracted by shiny new gadgets they don't really need - say changing phones every couple months. It might seem impressive for some people, but if you strip away all the glamour, there's not really value much behind it.

That's not to say that I consider them inferior to myself in any way - I simply do not see any significant improvements and superiority that would be indicated by the article.

I doubt they'll offer marvelous solutions to "issues of our generation". Naturally, there is a possibility that there will be an incredible genius that will solve some of those problems. However, this is something that can happen at any time, pre or post millenia. We should not forget that these issue are generally far too complicated to be solved just by a single person - they would require cooperation between thousands of people. Even if some "post millenium" genius will be the face of such breakthroughs, there will be whole team of people supporting him/her. There's bound to be at least one of us older guys in there.

  3. I really feel uneasy watching documentaries about "gifted prodigies". I feel that such children really miss out a great part of their lives and that they are thrown directly into the world of adults, where money, position and tiles are in the center of attention. Don't get me wrong - they have a great mind and much knowledge, but personally I feel that all people need an intimate relationship with others in order to have a happy life and in order to have this, they need to spend time with them. So I believe that everyone needs to find an equilibrium between the time they spend on developing themselves and the time spent with others. And unfortunately, in all of the videos all "teen great minds" did not even mention other people that are close to them. Moreover, you could hear statements like "he spends most of his waking hours learning...". Am I the only one that thinks this is sad?

So probably this is a very personal thing, but for me, when I look back at my life, I see images of my friends and family and all of the special moments that I've spent with them. What does a "14-Year-Old Prodigy Programmer" or a "Teen [that] Speaks Over 20 Languages" see when they look back at their lives?

I do believe that with every generation the access to valuable information gets easier. I can also see that some very important information (from my perspective) that is not shared in classrooms, like how to communicate with others or how to be healthy, are easily accessible on the net. So I can only hope that the next generations will take advantage of all the learning material that is accessible in order to steer their lives in a good direction.

    1. You aren't the only person who is afraid about throwing children into deep water of adult life.

I was a little shocked when young programmer talk about having girlfriend - that it's a tremendous waste of time. I'm hope that it is matter of his age and he will change his mind.

  4. I agree with Kamil that movies don't present ordinary teenagers. Thus I will try to look at your questions about the postmillennial generation not only by presented articles.

1.Similarly to Slawomir probably I have already heard about a fantastic new generation ;-). But when I look at my 13 years daughter I see that it is true.

2.I suppose that every younger generation should have a better access to knowledge, technical possibilities than previous (excluding cases of wars or global crises). But I don't think that later generation are better prepared for adult life because life also changes. Additionally I see that some older and more experienced people exactly know how to use these young people enthusiasm, skills and ... lack of reality knowledge for personal benefits.

    3. Problems which you mentioned have been existing for years so I have never supposed that they would be solved by postmillenial generation. Nowadays we have a lot of problems which can be solved (or significantly decreased) from the "technical" point of view (i.e. starvation, malaria) but they can't. I suppose that life will be similarly as brutal for the postmillenial generation as for us. But I say "Good look!" also for them.

  5. 1.What do you think about post millennium generation?

These kids are amazing but it seems to me that they represent only a small percentage of whole group post millennium generation. It seems to me that nowadays most kids are interested in playing videos games or they are spent most of their time on Facabook instead of learning so it's hard to say smoothing more about that generation base of three videos:)

2.Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will be better educated / prepared for adult live then millennium generation?

I think that they can be because they have much easier access to the knowledge and to research some information Also thy way how teacher teach student also evolve they change they method most of the try to learn student thinking not only remember information. On the other hand now a day learning is more focused on specialization so if you are on mathematic class most of case you don't learn geography, history or biology and in my opinion it isn't so good idea.

    3. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will easily solve problems inherited from our generation like: problems of minorities, religious radicals, political correctness, unemployment and so on?

Hard to say we will say but to in my opinion to solving that kind of problem depend on IQ not on that this is post or past millennium generation:)

  6. Sorry but these teenagers from movie are not ordinary so I can't assume an attitude to this problem / or not problem. I think that "post millennium generation" is a subject with some special teenagers so how you want to compare education level for everyone? Also I can't answer for your last question, this problems which you describe there can solve everyone who have idea. For some problems education level is not important, you need to see this solution (Maybe this is trivial but this is like a guy who invented the wheel). Some solution is very simple and we don't need to be a special. BTW have a nice day ;)

  7. 1. What do you think about post millennium generation?

I'm impressed, these kids are happy doing what they enjoy. It's nice someone made it possible for them to pursue this path.

    2. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will be better educated / prepared for adult live then millennium generation?

We'll see about that. I'm sure there will be unexpected challenges, but it's a pretty safe bet they will be better educated. As other have already pointed out, the line between childhood and adulthood is blurred in the case of the kids presented in the videos.

    3. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will easily solve problems inherited from our generation like: problems of minorities, religious radicals, political correctness, unemployment and so on?

They will have other problems to solve including: running out of natural resources and sustaining an aging population. The problems which you mentioned are easier to solve in highly developed countries, so they may have more success in those areas as more of the world rises out of poverty.

  8. Nowadays young people have better access to knowledge. I can see the difference between my older siblings and me. They had more problems with access to knowledge.
I have had great opportunities and I think that uses these features. The development of technology is not always conducive to the development of intelligence but I think to a large extentraises
the level of intelligence of the younger population. When it comes to the children of the post, I think that they are only a small percentage of the whole. We can not evaluate all children according
to their measure.Troubleshooting depends on the degree of intelligence. And what determines the level of IQ? I do not know.

  9. 1. What do you think about post millennium generation?
These kids are great  but I’m wondering how many kids like that exist in the world? Probably less than 0.01% but those kind of people use to change the world.
    2. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will be better educated / prepared for adult live then millennium generation?
Really, I don’t know. I think those kids live in their world, they don’t care about simple think for eg. cleaning or pay bills, they are kind of artist who need manager.
    3. Do you think that kids of post millennium generation will easily solve problems inherited from our generation like: problems of minorities, religious radicals, political correctness, unemployment and so on?
I have no opinion on these problem. They are very difficult and complicated

  10. Unfortunately, I do not think that the millennium generation is a brilliant children. Unfortunately, I have classes with students and watching many disturbing aspects.
The first problem is the difficulty of effectively using information. There is a problem abnormal relationship between knowledge and skills. Now It's skills are a true knowledge, the information is freely available.
Another problem is the lack of building real relationships. Human relationships have been replaced by social media. Another serious problem is the lack of passion and curiosity reality. Nobody verifies the information from the internet.
